Teenage mutant ninja turtles was esoteric as fuck, still haunts me to this day thinking about what kind of mastermind came up with that, and repackaged it to be suitable for kids. Might be some obnoxious hint about a group of evil busters back in the 70s who got scleroderma'd by radiation from unseen governed forces. Them giving into sludge also represents a man's psyche when torn apart.
