approaching and observing the girl become ecstatic the second she realizes what's happening feels so much better and more validating as a man, basically signalling you have the upper hand in that entire game in general

the opposite, getting directly approached by them only has one advantage - easy sex (assuming you find them attractive).

other than that, it's off-putting and mostly just means the girl who approached you is male-brained/a whore/desperate to prove something to herself or someone/something else equally detached from the possibility that she finds you exceptionally attractive. it also often means that you were just the first guy with good enough looks she got the chance to interact with, and that it has nothing to do with you standing out beyond passing the minimum threshold

when i was younger, i thought guys who were saying they enjoyed "hunting" way more than just passively waiting for a girl to come to them were just coping with the realization that they have to run numbers game to get pussy (some were probably indeed just coping, if they also looked meh while saying that), but now i realize what they meant
