i have curly hair too (3B/C) bc im mixed and here’s what really helped me.
just from your post id go to a barber and get it cut, you probably have dead ends and some matting from the sounds of it and it’ll get worse if you don’t get it dealt with
1. unbrush- it can actually untangle my hair
2. mielle leave in conditioner- i use it at night but i know people who use it as a styler. it keeps my hair moisturized
3. regular wash routine- im a lifeguard for the summer so im around chlorine constantly. washing my hair 1-2 times a week depending on if im in chlorine keeps my hair from drying out. ill only shampoo sometimes if im only in chlorine for a little bit and follow up with leave in conditioner.
4. clarifying shampoo- helps get rid of product buildup. i use devacurl clarifying shampoo which is pricy, but the doux or not your mothers are good cheaper alternatives.
5. hair oil- especially after using clarifying shampoo because it leave your hair dry. my brother uses verb ghost hair oil, but i don’t know any cheaper alternatives

6. other styling products/tips- if you don’t use leave in conditioner in the morning, i recommend using a hair cream. i use blue skala (brazilian hair product), but not your
mothers styling cream is great as well. their beach salt spray is good for texturizing also.
i hope this helps u
