the brain literally benefits from variety. neurological studies show that listening to a wider range of music activates more areas of the brain, strengthens neural connections, and even improves memory and mood regulation.

it’s the same principle as cognitive cross-training: different rhythms, harmonies, and structures challenge your brain in different ways.

there’s also a social fact.

people with broader music tastes score higher in openness on personality tests and are better at relating across cultures. music taste is one of the fastest ways humans “signal” identity, so if you stay locked into one narrow genre, you’re basically shrinking your social adaptability.

expanding your music taste improves brain plasticity and social flexibility.
