It’s the past and only a memory to some (oldcels),how can we trust history books when maybe the opposite happened for example. What if our grandparents were all tortured to not speak about what happened. It’s the same concept as “Don’t believe what your eyes don’t see”. You could show me a picture of space “taken” by NASA and I wouldn’t entirely believe it but we’ve grown up with the concept. Not a conspiracy theorist but how should I believe something I didn’t see for myself?

Historians cross-check sources from different places and times, throw out anything that doesn’t add up, and only keep what matches the evidence. What you see in school is just the simplified version of all that work. I would reiterate of course. History is not a science. We don’t know what’s happening in Gaza right now ‘for sure’ by your logic. The medium has changed that’s all, from text to video, but you’re not in Gaza to see any wars? What happens is, you see multiple sources of video proof and it builds your trust in said event occurring. Even though you’re not witnessing the war itself.
