you gotta disabled the button circled in red. it's on by default for some reason.

even after doing that, you have to go back to all the threads you've interacted with, and hit the unwatch button

because turning off the setting means you won't get notifications for NEW threads you comment under - but you'll still get notifications from the threads you interacted with beforehand
