I understand that it may be a catalyst for shallow status in some instances, but is this really desirable?

When I hear people discussing cars, clothing, houses or whatnot whatever it just baffles me how people care so much, and how some are willing to work 12 hours a day to afford some superficial product with no actual purpose is just ludicrous. Or perhaps I'm the crazy one, that's what I'm trying to figure out really?

they’re brainwashed and addicted to the temporary feeling of satisfaction

Makes sense, but how am I then supposed to connect or integrate in a society where 99% behave in this outrageous fashion?

I've tried explaining this to my doctor but he just wants to give me drugs instead of allowing me to permanently self-isolate and live on gov assistance

Truthfully, greed keeps materialism going.
We want more so that we can feel superior to the next person.

saying this when you've been broke your entire life doesn't count

it's like saying sex is gross as a deformed truecel and expecting people to bow at you for not being superficial

as a self isolated person I get you, but there are definitely some people out there who think like you (or maybe you could just geomaxx to some unknown remote village ig )

looks are far more worthy than owning trendy shit and such

but that's not the point - it's that this sentiment op is expressing (i hope no one here thinks that's original) always comes AFTER realizing you can't afford something, as the default coping mechanism

if he was truly not like that, he simply wouldnt care about the issue, nor would he have the need to depict himself as some fucking martyr for ... not spending money ... without anyone asking in the first place

Lots of the facts for this materialistic stuff like fancy cars and watches is because well in a lot of cases these add to status and a lot of them have there own value like watches are more or less investments because they go up in value same with some cars

understandable

yeah. dont even think op is a bad guy, i just cant ignore that elephant in the room

of course retarded materialism with no purpose is a thing, it's just that you don't exactly get a medal for claiming that with teary eyes, like god himself spoke to you.

and the op is framing his claim like he thinks we should all stand up and clap at how special he is.

simply put, his word would hold weight if he had a 7-digit net worth (or 8, like me). this way (assuming he is a broke neet who can't cope with other people having money to spend), he's basically trying to extort validation from people reading this by appealing to common ethics. not the transcendence flex he and millions other copers parroting the same think it is

Yeah it may boost status, but it'll always be quite superficial. I just ate a handful of shrooms so I can't really type right now but oh well, it's just beyond anything that's truthfully sane.

Yeah. I agree that this whole post is water but I was yearning for validation so I posted it anyways!

This thread is of the type “not that deep, but I'll pretend it's deep”.

seems similar to this kind of analogy
chad: slaying :: money : materialism

I could have come up with a better analogy, but that's not the point

Next thread: Chad is bad because he fucks pussies, or ... pussy without relationships = bad
