You need a Jewish mother of both semite and othrodox history. You are born in it, not converted. In the Talmud and Kabballah there is the good and bad energy/life forces. The Good remained in the God's people "Jews" and the bad became the Goyim, the non godly people. You can only be born into it.

In the biggest theological group within the semite race, is the Orthodox judaism. You need to be born from your mother's side to be considered a Jew, only if she is a Jew. Since a non Jew woman is considered lesser or unholy.
