yes, i know xenforo has functionality to allow the admin to see private messages (and staff even) with the use of an add-on

with that being said, i can promise you (up to you if you want to believe it or not) that I have never read anyones private messages in the entire history of running this forum, nor would I ever do that in the future for any reason

regardless, people should be careful about sending private messages to anyone on any website
