show choir situation
Over last weekend I had my 2nd comp in Iowa, and we got 2nd place to a group that was in 3rd after prelim awards (we were in first at the time), but lost In finals performance. My backflip was kinda crappy, but everyone still loved it or whatever, but my friend and I were beefing ALL DAY! My friend is literally the love of my life, and I could not live without him! We have this insanely deep connection, and when we beef it honestly hurts my soul. Anyways, he's the president of the group (literally has no job but to motivate us, and now we like to pray before and after comps) he was the tenor section leader last year, and he's also very musically talented. I'm the senior dance captain of the group, and I got most of the guys to show up to some early morning practices before school so that I could clean up some choreography and whatnot. It was only two days that week. Monday I told most everybody that we were going to do this again tomorrow and Friday, and got minimal complaint only one idiot senior (back row) and a freshman (back row) had other priorities apparently and they agreed pretty quickly. I was pretty scared the first two times, but the results were positive.
We don't win best choreography by lack of discipline and we got down to business and finished with some vocal work because I think its just universal that most the basses in show Choir are put there bc there tone deaf, and would voice crack and lose us vocal points. The bass section leader is showing a lack of commitment, so the pres, tenor leader and I have to help him as he sometimes acts like a freshman. Him and the leftover baritone section leader (first Bari quit) are pretty lazy. Director talked to us today and was wondering if the practices were pretty helpful and whatnot, but then he's like, 'I dunno if these practices are good for the motivation levels" and after school they were all like "yeah you should cancel the practices... motivation this, motivation that yadda yadda" The only reason they say this is because they don't wanna get up for a 6:30 practice, like you guys are seniors not freaking freshman, grow up and put in the work! It was literally just an argument between my best friend and me about whether or not we should cancel, cuz the other guys are pathetic leaders. Long story short, my best friend went specifically against my wishes while I was at my BB game and texted the guys group chat that the practices were canceled, AND even told them it was a group decision. The problem is that we lost because of vocals... the winning group got best vocals which has more weight that choreo by like 10ish points. The judges always complain about the guys lacking vocal power or style dancing. Up until this year, I don't remember the last time a judge has complimented us guys on the choreo. Very timely, I implemented morning practices, and we all of a sudden got the judges to glaze us, and our director doesn't compare us to the girls as much??
I know we're all leadership, but I'm the most experienced and committed and organized. I've got all the awards to prove it! I have about 5x as many awards as them all combined! I got the horizon award freshman year (most promising future leader), and I have gotten every best performer award since the end of my SOPHOMORE year. Me and my other fellow dance captains are 2 for 2 with best choreo, the section leaders... only 1 for 2 best vocals. Clearly we need more practice, and I don't think they have the credentials to cancel MY ideas. Especially not my friend alone. The competition situation is what really hurt me. I was kinda being a bum, but he likes to gather the guys every few hours to theorize about what if we don't win, and he was telling this sappy story even though we were in first, and I interrupted him, and he immediately started yelling at me, so I went out of the homeroom to bitch about it to the girls, and we peaked our heads in the room a few min later to see if he was still being a drag, and he told me to go away! I don't remember the last time we've ever spoken to each other in that manner and tone of voice, so I was shocked! This is the first year he's really had a say in any decisions, so I was like hell nah to him talking to me like that! I walked away and didn't talk for him for like a whole 7 seconds cuz he apologized and I was still mad, so I told him his speeches and shit are too much and stupid. Then he told me I sounded pathetic. He yelled at me, and then later at our other friend who's one of the female dance captains, so he was in deep shit with literally everyone after that. At the hotel we sat in some chairs, and accused said friend of laughing at him when he was trying to be serious after losing the comp, and slammed the table as he was talking to her. We were all like this ngga on something, but then he gave us all a hug as a peace treaty ig... but now he's back at it, undermining my authority, and canceling my practices. In all honesty, I'm def overreacting a bit, but then again his ass be walkin on thin ice these days!
