Yep, dark skin is a failo in South Asia but ironically when I see couples, there’s usually a noticeable discrepancy in skin color. Since I’m just medium brown, I don’t think it affects me much. Here in the west, it’s all about face and mine is subpar.

Yeah, in a lot of couples, it’s usually the guy that’s darker. Not by much normally speaking but I’ve seen outliers as well. I’m neither light nor dark, just in-between.

In my family, the phenotypes can range. The biggest and funniest comparison to me will be some kid and his grandmother.

When I saw him, I thought he was just a random villager living in my village but then I visited family members and that’s where I saw him again, turns out he’s family. Nice kiddo, he said hi to me when he saw me the first time (before visiting their house).

But they lived in USA afterwards so it dint matter.

I hope the newer generation would be more open-minded its especially sad considering half the people here are dark-skinned. I hope its better in south india atleast. Yeah, native South Asians are usually more traditional. There’s exceptions as well though. And yeah, your cousin would be committing social suicide if she’s gonna get tanned. I don’t think any South Asian can wrap their heads around the idea of tanning. It’s like desecrating a holy place for them.

but atleast from the stuff I’ve seen online, darkskin is a failo for both guys and girls in South Asia, atleast women can get by cause of their gender though lol

nahh, lived here all my life. its practically over if you have darkskin as a girl, even your gender wont help. youll always get bullied etc, guys face it too but a little less.
