Discussion If this is a self-improvement forum, why is everyone so cynical and bitter?

I posted on org because I had no idea of its connotations and the kinds of people who spoke there, just a normally functioning dude who wanted to know how to look as good as he could.

However it's kind of far removed from a site where you get constructive feedback on your appearance and improve, because it seems rather like it's just an outlet for repressed bitterness, and I kind of unexpectedly got swept up in the storm after having insults hurled at me out of nowhere.

People seem to bring each other down more often than up.

This forum is obviously a little more tame but it's still a microcosm of insecurity, anger, degeneracy. Why are people so miserable and pessimistic? And why this site?

this place is just a walking circle

Another thing I've seen in these forums is that when somebody is content with their life situation, or their image (often rightly so), guys will try and ravage their self-esteem like a pack of wolves to drag them down to their level.

What is this motherfuckery lol

Dnr but those are not self improvement forum

Because we're stonecold truecels

OP I was genuinely shocked when men hurt each other in this forum with harsh words, it’s reminding me of women doing it

There’s a difference between the kind of words that’ll motivate someone to improve themselves as opposed to killing themselves. Both can be said in a harsh manner

Because self improvement is actually rarely what the forums are about. On the surface they are, but in action they aren't.

Both sites would be focusing on prioritizing rewards for those who contribute to the self improvement categories (they try with the contributor banners but y'know) and neutralize the other categories. But it wouldn't make sense to do this. It stems mainly from the history of these kinds of forums. Looksmaxxing stems from incel culture, and in incel culture there isn't an objective/goal, it's just a community. So when they branch off into new communities, their end goal is still community over an objective/goal.

When you join a forum to talk about a product you use (like a game or service), or something like that, why do you think people join? It's to talk about that product. The off topic categories are normally inactive and when they are active they're normally respectful and still somewhat related to the primary subject at hand. Because the forum's objective is to facilitate discussion about that product or service, and people will use it as such.

Self improvement is kind of subjective and is hard and there isn't really a unified goal. So when you join a forum for self improvement, you're already starting on a weird foot. When you find out those forums most active categories are the off topic categories, where most of the rewards are for post count and not quality, where there's little penalty for making shit content, and when the forum's primary goal is community not a specific result, then it makes sense why nobody talks about self improvement.

I think if .org removed the special colors for post counts, made it where off topic posts didn't contribute to a user's rep count, requiring a minimum character count in certain categories, remove a lot of the profile cosmetics, etc., do you think people would use it the same? Not really.

With that being said, these sites are not self improvement forums, and you've been mislead if you think they are. They're blackpilled forums, where the main conversation is about how your appearance relates to how you are treated; they're not based solely off of your appearance, or it would be a beauty or a fashion or whatever forum.

Blackpill ideology is inherently miserable.

Yup, I realised way too late that essentially these are just incel forums masquerading as something else.

My main point of contention with them is that they aren't self-contained either; they're actively dragging others into the cesspool that is their mindset because of the "looksmaxxing" title; they're self-destruction forums.

Blackpill is supposed to be representative of reality, but ironically, people are way off the mark when it comes to predicting how I'm treated based on my appearance lol. I don't wanna elaborate much on my life, but let's just say if I wasn't physically ill and still living my ordinary life, I'd never have stepped foot in these forums. I'm now being gaslighted into believing things about myself that are false and questioning my sanity.

I learned about James Sapphire recently, and it terrified me how he was doing well with girls at first but was gaslit into thinking he had major flaws, consequently fucking up his life.

Maybe the premise of blackpill is true, but people are so dogass at reconciling it with reality, that I think it's an ideology people are better off not engaging in.

Idgaf about incels, their communities, or what they do on their forums, as long as they only feed into their own cycle of negative feedback, and don't hurt anyone else. I feel for the younger guys especially who stumble upon them.

Careful about repercussions though, I only recommend doing it to people who are already in the cesspools of inceldom, because it's evil doing it to insecure kids.
