In a few months I will have to choose between guaranteed success via nepotism

I'm not a r****d, deep down I know the first choice is ultimately better but I have the innate urge to choose my interest and challenge myself. My dream was always to be a professional economist in the research field, but it will be very tough to crack. One of my few "dreams" at least
