okay but life is lowkey ass after 50+ unless you’re rich so it’s fine

avoid foods that raise your blood sugar too quickly (high glycemic carbs)

look into drugs like metformin or supplements like berberine that are proven to help with blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity improvement

have walks or any other physical activity after your meals to help with lowering blood sugar

building a decent amount of muscle mass will help with inslulin sensitivity

i already walk minimum an hour daily and i swim like 4 times a week maybe i’ll start going to the gym soon

also have lower body fat % it helps with insulin sensitivity

If you want to get an idea of your insulin sensitivity:
  • Fasting blood glucose - measure first thing in the morning before eating (goal is usually 3.9-5.0 mmol/L).
  • After-meal glucose - check 1 and 2 hours after eating a carb-heavy meal (ideally under ~7.8 mmol/L at 2 hours).
  • HbA1c test - lab test showing your 2-3 month average blood sugar (optimal is around 31-34 mmol/mol or 5.0–5.3%).
  • Fasting insulin + fasting glucose - lets you calculate HOMA-IR, a more direct measure of insulin resistance (goal is <1).
  • Continuous glucose monitor (CGM) - tracks your blood sugar all day so you can spot big spikes or slow returns to baseline.
