awhh i’m sorryWell, all my grandparents passed away by the time I was 9. I’m 30 now.
oh okay awesome boyBut in Urdu, we have different terms for each grandparent. Maternal grandmother: nani, maternal grandfather: nana, paternal grandparent: dada, paternal grandmother: dadi or dado. Like daa-di, daa-do.
Thanks. And wow, interesting. In Dutch they say oma or opa as well, that’s why I asked. I guess that’s Swiss and the babaanne is Turkish. I get it now. Anne means mother in Turkish. Baba means father. So mother’s father (grandfather) and mother’s mother (grandmother).no turkish and swiss
awhh i’m sorry

The Netherlands! We have almost 500,000 Turkish people here. They are well-behaved compared to other MENA groups, like Moroccans who have a very bad reputation.oh that’s lit where do you live
oh littt that’s so cool i wanna visit one dayThe Netherlands! We have almost 500,000 Turkish people here. They are well-behaved compared to other MENA groups, like Moroccans who have a very bad reputation.
What about you, where are you from? Probably Switzerland, I guess? I’m actually surprised to hear that you’re describing them as hospitable? I would describe them as hardworking and well-adjusted. The level of hospitality is comparable to other groups, which isn’t high. Maybe it’s different in each country?oh littt that’s so cool i wanna visit one day
yeah turks are very generous hospitable people which can usually come off as too much so that’s very surprising
good to hear tho
nah i’m from the US, jersey LOL but i visit switzerland and turkey a lotWhat about you, where are you from? Probably Switzerland, I guess? Oooooh, you mean Turkish people from Turkey. Yeah, absolutely. I thought you were talking about the ones who migrated to other countries hahah. Speaking of NJ, my family was given the option to migrate there, but they declined; preferring to stay in the NL. How do you deal with those long-haul flights? They must be over 10 hours! I dislike flying. I’m kinda paranoid about it, but I’ve done it a bunch of times.nah i’m from the US, jersey LOL but i visit switzerland and turkey a lot
yeah they’re extremely welcoming literally the second you walk into a store in turkey they give you tea and shit they’re good people but yes extremely hard working
that’s just in turkey at least
Hmah
yea im not too sure about that but honestly they’re pretty similar in the USOooooh, you mean Turkish people from Turkey. Yeah, absolutely. I thought you were talking about the ones who migrated to other countries hahah.
wtfff are you seriousSpeaking of NJ, my family was given the option to migrate there, but they declined; preferring to stay in the NL.
yeahhh i hate flying too but im a deep easy sleeper so as long as i fall asleep before take off and wake up after landing it’s fine i can sleep the whole time LOLHow do you deal with those long-haul flights? They must be over 10 hours! I dislike flying. I’m kinda paranoid about it, but I’ve done it a bunch of times.
Oh, maybe mainland Europe is undoing the hospitable nature of people haha. We are hospitable people as well, but not in the west, for some reason. Though if you come to our house and it’s dinner time, you won’t leave without eating with us. In high school, I went to this Dutch classmate of mine’s house along with another classmate who was Croatian. When it was dinner time, they asked us to leave and come back later. XDyea im not too sure about that but honestly they’re pretty similar in the US
wtfff are you serious
NJ is like the most perfect place on earth you guys don’t even have shoprite or lbi
yeahhh i hate flying too but im a deep easy sleeper so as long as i fall asleep before take off and wake up after landing it’s fine i can sleep the whole time LOL
oh that’s so nice i love people like thatOh, maybe mainland Europe is undoing the hospitable nature of people haha. We are hospitable people as well, but not in the west, for some reason. oh yeah fs teaching here is def horribleHaha honestly, I’m not a fan of the US for many reasons. I like it here, plus for my future profession it’s better. Teachers are treated horribly over there from what I read.
o shit wtf take melatonin that’s miserableMakes sense, I don’t sleep during the plane ride. I tend to stay awake for 48 hours whenever I travel, so that’s probably also why I don’t like doing it. How many times have you gone in the past 6 years?
Ohhh oops, no it was my Dutch classmate’s parent that kicked us out, the Croatian classmate thought it was weird and said it wouldn’t happen that way in their household either.oh that’s so nice i love people like that
that’s so rude wtf fuck the croatians
oh yeah fs teaching here is def horrible
o shit wtf take melatonin that’s miserable
well i go to each country once a year so i guess 12
but i travel a lot to other places a lot i go away like four times a year
oh dawggg that’s so weird of themOhhh oops, no it was my Dutch classmate’s parent that kicked us out, the Croatian classmate thought it was weird and said it wouldn’t happen that way in their household either.
yeah no teachers get treated horribly and get paid like nothing esp at public schoolsHaha yeah, I lurk r/teachers and all they do is complain, complain and complain. Speaking of future professions, what are you majoring in, assuming you’re studying?
oh good good try em out why notI already got sleeping pills from the doctor! They’re benzos but I’ve not taken them.
yeahhh i mean i like going places i just hate the plane ridesAnd that’s a lot of traveling. Funny how some people are really into that. I’m not into traveling but I’ve flown three times (or six if you count the ride home). No wait, 12 times because of the layover flights as well.
Yeah, it’s interesting to see how different cultures can be. I prefer the hospitable cultures, and I think you do too, because we’re the same way.oh dawggg that’s so weird of them
but i guess it’s fair it’s their house
yeah no teachers get treated horribly and get paid like nothing esp at public schools
yeah i’m majoring in philosophy hoping to go to law school to make that bag eyyy
oh good good try em out why not
yeahhh i mean i like going places i just hate the plane rides
in total? that’s crazy wtf![]()
oh whattt philosophy is rlly interesting if you get into itYeah, it’s interesting to see how different cultures can be. I prefer the hospitable cultures, and I think you do too, because we’re the same way.
Philosophy?! Woah. I only had philosophy as a subject in adult high school to get my GED; it was a 2-year subject but I did it in one year, and I got an A+ on the national exam. In contrast, my first grade was an F. But then I got the gist of it, and my second and third grades were both B+.
yeah most here don’t rlly pay attention in classTeachers here fare better, the high school I do my student teaching at has a “no phones in classrooms” policy, and honestly it helps. It is reminiscent of the days I went to high school. In the US, it’s very normal for students to be on their phones or their laptops. The students at my school don’t even use a laptop.
huh interestingI have an aversion to any sort of medication, painkillers included. I have a headache? I’ll just soldier through it. I don’t know why I’m like this, though.
ahhh okayI meant 12 flights in 6 years as well, haha. First a flight from the NL to Qatar and from there to Pakistan. Then back to Qatar and then NL, so that’s 4 flights. And I flew three times, so 4x3 =12 flights in total.
Yeah, philosophy’s a great subject but there’s one philosopher I absolutely despite. That one French bastard who experimented on dogs, and claimed their cries wasn’t in relation to their pain, so he sadistically kept torturing them.oh whattt philosophy is rlly interesting if you get into it
yeah most here don’t rlly pay attention in class
huh interesting
it’s a reasonable fear but they’ve been around for long enough for us to know there not that bad in normal dosages
ahhh okay
oh that’s so cool
descartes?Yeah, philosophy’s a great subject but there’s one philosopher I absolutely despite. That one French bastard who experimented on dogs, and claimed their cries wasn’t in relation to their pain, so he sadistically kept torturing them.
no no it’s somewhat rational but you’re too old to be scared of something so sillyHaha it’s less of a fear and more of a case of me being a dumbass. XD
