Meta data
Meta data is data that describes other data providing context such as its origin, type, owner, and relationships to other datasets. To put it more simply, location can be extracted from meta data. This includes pictures and videos uploaded to the forum which meta data is in.
There are two ways to stop meta data from being traced, for both pc users and phone users. I will only be going over one for genuine ease of process so you don't have to work with a third party tool.
Meta data removal
The fastest way to remove meta data is through discord, sounds crazy right? But discord removes meta data from images for the safety of the users.
So say, if you want to upload a image to the forum, it's safer to make a server with you only in it on discord or send it in a chat with someone you trust, upload the picture to that server or chat with a friend and save it after you send it in the server to make a copy of the image you want to upload. That copy of the picture you just saved will have everything erased like location, phone model, and the bunch of other information that can be dangerous to you.
There are other way's to remove meta data, but since a lot of users here are on discord i thought it would be good to share the easiest method for users here instead of using a third party tool which isn't really available to everyone since most tools are pc or android users only. If you are interested in other tools feel free to dm me and i will happily share them.
IP grabbers
First, let me explain what an ip is and why this is valuable to protect. An ip address is something to do with your wifi, every device that connects to your wifi box like your phone or laptop has an ip address. When you go online, your internet service provider assigns your device and ip address, which can be temporary (dynamic) or fixed (static). This address can change, for example when you go out and connect to another wifi or restarting your router.
An ip address can be valuable due to 3 reason, it's possible to get an estimate on location from an ip, it can be attacked with botnets (DDOS attacks if you want to learn more about it) which make your internet stop working in short, or the most unlikely is digital fraud.
Now an explanation on ip grabbers, IP grabbers are in fact what it means, they steal your ip address. this can be done through links that you click on stupidly (most likely to happen this way) or clicking on images in dm's on .com that aren't sent through a third party app like imgur of imgbb. I will not be explaining how the second one works as i will talk to mods about it but be weary of images if that person that is sending doesn't have attach file permissions but sent a picture anyway.
Example of what the difference is between a imgur picture vs a possible ip grabber looks like in dm's:
Ways to avoid IP grabbers
VPNs! Proton vpn is a great free use vpn and i would suggest it.
Not clicking on stupid links, or links in general unless you have a VPN on and activated.
That's it, i suggest doing your own research as a lot of things on the internet can be a danger to your ip not only .com.
Leaking information about yourself
Don't trust nobody.
Yes you can trust people at your own terms but leaking identity, location, face is your fault.

Q&A (will be updated if people ask questions to me about this thread that i will answer and update so others can see instead of looking through the thread and having to find it)
Q:
A:Metadata dosent include ur location if location services are turned off tho
Regardless of this, by other means of metadata a location can be tracked (ip and such). This is good advice. (for people who want to know how to disable location services incase: On an iPhone, you can disable location access for the Camera app in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Camera and select "Never" to prevent location data from being added. Android, you have to look up.)
Q:
Does proton vpn actually work well? I use a different one.
A:
Yes, it's a good vpn and they have data rules that won't fuck you over if you are doing nefarious shit on the internet. (this can be compromised through loopholes they set up but i don't think people are using a free vpn to do stupid shit with.)
The only issue is on mobile, the kill switch (a kill switch is when the vpn stops properly working and instead of leaking your ip to the site it completely stops internet so that your ip doesn't get leaked for whatever reason the vpn stopped working.) Doesn't really work on mobile as well. So just keep that in mind as i don't know if you are a pc user or a phone user.
