The Theory
The theory is that the phone guy faked his death. Some of the evidence can be summarized, but explains other aspects of the game. Please note that I could just as well be false. I highly doubt that. The Details
If you pay close attention to the number of times Foxy bangs on the door, you can hear that he banged on the door a total of 8 times. Using the power of mathematics and my head (and totally not a calculator, or even a pen and pad), we can calculate that Foxy drained 148% power. How do we know this? If you have set Foxy to 20 and the rest of the animatronics to 0, and have Foxy bang on the door, you can notice a power decrease of this pattern:If he bangs on the door once, you lose 1%.
If he bangs on the door twice, you lose 6% MORE power.
If he bangs on the door three times, you lose 11% more power.
We can calculate using the power of math that:
Bang 1: 1%
Bang 2: 7% (6% more lost)
Bang 3: 18% (11% more lost)
Bang 4: 34% (16% more lost)
Bang 5: 55% (21% more lost)
Bang 6: 81% (26% more lost)
Bang 7: 112% (31% more lost)
Bang 8: 148% (36% more lost)
"What does the pattern mean?", you might ask. Basically, if Foxy banged on the door 8 times, he drained 148% power. This suggests the phone guy banged on the door himself. "Is that the only evidence you have?", you might ask. Of course not, we haven't even gotten to the second part of the evidence. If you listen closely, it sounds like Foxy is banging from the inside. We know that's incorrect, because there is no reason for him to do so, and even then, the phone guy would already be dead. "Why does Freddy's jingle play, then?", you might ask. His camera was most likely on the kitchen. There are only two places Freddy plays his jingle: When the power goes out, and in the kitchen. "Why do we hear the groan?", you might ask. He most likely changed his camera to the E. Hall Corner, or W. Hall Corner. Chica or Bonnie produced the actual sound effect. "How does he do the static?", you might ask. My theory is that he had a little tape recorder. He recorded a bit of static, did the following criteria, screamed, and hit play right on the phone.
If you read closely, you would see that there are two parts of the evidence. We just covered how he did it. We now need to cover why in order to have an understanding as to why he would do such a thing. This also answers the famous question: "Why does he come back for five nights, and why do they expect him next week?".
The one thing that is very, very important to the Five Nights at Freddy's game, that we've never seen before, and a perfectly reasonable explanation for most of the questions: the contract. The contract is very important, because it can determine the answer to the following questions. My theory is that the phone guy is just another innocent man like you, looking for a job that pays you even minimum wage. He needed the money, and so do you. In the contract, it can state that if you quit, or get fired, you owe the company a certain amount of money that you surely can't afford. You're working for minimum wage. You surely can't afford to pay the price. If you pay attention to the calls, he's getting moved to day shift, and therefore his contract can't expire. There is only one escape, and that is by faking your death.
