trad braces + powerchains after a year and 4 months + class II elastic on my right side. i have a u diastema so i had a gap before but crowding and my teeth are straight now at first glance but my midline is off and i have a crossbite. idk wtf happened but they recessed my maxilla so much instead of matching my already recessed mandible to it they decided to match recessions. i genuinely do have narrow airways though and its kinda hard to breathe and mew but not to the point of genuine sleep apnea or at least not that i know off. i have a 6 ish tooth smile though maybe 8 but mostly 6 and i want to get a palate expander but i already had an overbite before that is fixed for the most part and idk how that would interfere with my bite since i genuinely cannot fit my tongue in my mouth comfortably and my tongue is always scalloped when i wake up

first mistake was not expanding
orthos try to go the easiest route to make money off of you instead of fixing the route cause
i had pretty much the same problem as you: slight crossbite, midline was off and an overbite.
with my treatment they gave me a palatal expander and then straightened out all my teeth with class II elastics on one side and class I on the other with a cross section in the front
however when it came to the point where my teeth were already straightened and my bite was perfect my midline was still off (in my case its purely genetic) so they extracted my upper left premolar which was arguably the best decision i ever made (extractions arent good in most cases however for my scenerio they didnt retract the teeth back and instead shifted them forward, so i didnt end up recessed as most people say)
my teeth are pretty much great now, ive been in braces for 2.5 years and im getting them off tomorrow.
it really depends on what ortho you go to because some specialize in airway while it seems like the one you went to is a camouflage ortho
id still go ahead and ask for a palatal expander it wont interfere with your bite or switch orthos
