Therapist said a cat on a leash would fix all of my problems.

I dunno man. One time a neighborhood cat just started walking by me when I was on a walk through the forest
Some black guy that looked like a taller Kai cenat walked by me, and then started a conversation with me telling me how I might be the ONLY person he's ever seen walking a cat.
And I had to tell him that it was not my fuckin cat whatsoever and we just happened to be going the same direction
The moral of the story is that if an animal is comfortable enough with you you don't need to actively restrain them for them to spend time with you
