It's one thing to discriminate (usually subconsciously) against fat people, but it's another to treat them like you are Adolf Hitler achieving lebensraum for the Thin Reich. I think it derives from the fact that you don't have to be fat to be unattractive, making it something that makes thinner unattractive people feel superior about. As a result thinner unattractive people will channel hatred towards fat people so they feel like they aren't the unattractive ones.
