Sounds like a cope “times were different back then” shoudnt he lead by example and do the right thing instead of doing odd things and you later excusing it as “times were different”

no they weren't, lol. Peasants had about the same marriage habits as modern people, getting married from 16-40 in terms of men and sometimes 15-30 in terms of women. Royals sometimes "married" 7yr olds but it was a diplomatic betrothal and not an actual marriage as it had to be consummated, they waited until the younger party was at the age of reason before proceeding, which usually ended up being around 16
