why are torvalds and stallman so hateful

open-source in general is kind of a whack-fest

i appreciate the portability of software and what not of course, and linux is the best computing solution general people will have ( accessible UNIX clone, widely maintained monolithic kernel )

also would not have been possible without corporate backing anyways. torvalds didn't mind accepting corporate cash when starting out, he had his great epiphany with the gpl 2 once he got the "bag"

sounds trivial, yeah, let's pay software engineers from huge corpos to work on the kernel/drivers. doesn't sound like a big deal until there is no more financial incentive to support a certain driver/architecture, then all of the sudden you have what is pretty much abandonware and unmaintainable undocumented code in the kernel because none of this development arose organically

"free software" is so misleading
