Why is cosmetic surgery looked down upon so much in society?

I was discussing with my friends the other day how I am thinking of getting some surgeries after I finish my studies and start earning a significant amount of money and they just nodded and gave a disappointed look.
It got me thinking that everyone tends to be against such surgeries in general, which I don't understand why.
Have y'all ever experienced something like this and what do think the reason is?
