so first things first.. perfumes usually fall into “families” (ෆ˙ᵕ˙ෆ) here’s the main ones you might find:
fresh scents:
clean, citrusy, ocean-y. think lemons, bergamot, “just showered” kind of scents.
floral scents:
roses, peonies, jasmine. very soft + pretty, super common in feminine scents.
woody scents:
sandalwood, cedar, earthy. grounding + mature smelling.
oriental // spicy scents:
warm, sweet, sometimes powdery. vanilla, cinnamon, amber.
gourmand scents:
smells like food lol. chocolate, caramel, coffee, almond.
most perfumes are blends, but one family usually stands out the most in a perfume

perfume also has “layers” or notes ..
this can get complicated (⌯˃̶᷄ ﹏ ˂̶᷄⌯):
top notes are what you smell first, fades fast.
heart notes are the main personality, shows up after ~20 mins.
base notes are the longest lasting stuffs, usually warm/woody. ^^
this is why you can’t judge a perfume right away. you gotta let it sit on your skin for a few hours before deciding if you actually like it ( • ᴗ • )و ̑̑

chooseing the right scent can be hard heres some good tips : D
– don’t test like 10 at once or your nose will get fried 0 . 0 stick to 2–3.
– spray on wrist or inner elbow + wait at least 30 mins.
– think about where you’ll wear it (light & clean for school/work, deeper for night).
– perfume smells different on every person bc skin chemistry ≠ the same (๑-﹏-๑)
makeing the smell goods last ^^
– put it on pulse points (neck, wrists, behind ears). warmth makes it stronger.
– moisturize before applying, perfume clings better.
– don’t rub wrists after spraying, it ruins the notes.
– mist a lil on clothes or hair for extra lasting power (but careful on delicate fabrics).

how to find your signature scent ! (。•̀‿-)✧
some ppl like to have one perfume that’s their thing, others like a little rotation depending on mood. try different families until you find what feels like “you.” i use more masculine scents because i find them to smell better than feminine scents personally so i prefer to have my signature scent be more woody and fresh ! >.< to be honest i mostly use oldspice swagger but thats because im more of a 'tomboy' in real life .. not that i exist much in the real world (chronically online i fear)
