We live in a hyper-adrenalized state. Constant digital stimulation keeps us in a perpetual feedback loop of f(x) where x is external validation. High cortisol levels don't just make you "stressed", they literally atrophy the prefrontal cortex. We are physically losing our ability to think long-term because we're stuck in survival mode.
