Hopped on accutane about a week ago, was just wondering if you guys had any tips on how to supplement/exist with it. Lips and nose are dry as fuck now and I feel like I'm breaking out even worse than before (though I heard this was part of a "purging period").

Any advice helps.

Use light skincare. Just use cleanser + moisturiser once a day along with vaseline for lips

Yeah that's what my derm told me to do so I've just been on that. Vaseline works for the inside of the nose, right? I'm getting very frequent nosebleeds and I suspect that's the result of dry California air+accutane drying it out.

Yeah you can. You could also see if you could get prescribed with something for that too. I've got eczema and got prescribed an ointment for it, I'm assuming that would also help in this case

I just got a dog and been getting allergic reactions to her so I also just got an eczema cream prescribed. You reckon that would help with my lips too or just the nose?

I'm not sure you could look into it though. Definitely use for nose

Should be fine imo

Short answer: Yes, with caution and under medical guidance. Triamcinolone acetonide can be used inside the nosebut only certain formulations are safe, and prolonged or incorrect use carries risks.

✅

Triamcinolone acetonide nasal sprays (like Nasacort AQ) are FDA-approved for intranasal use, usually to treat:

  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Nasal inflammation
  • Swelling, itching, or congestion

These are specifically formulated to be:

  • Safe for the nasal mucosa
  • Applied in measured, low-dose sprays
  • Non-occlusive, so they don’t trap moisture or bacteria

⚠️

Using topical triamcinolone acetonide cream or ointment (e.g., 0.1% formulations prescribed for eczema or rash) inside the nostrils is not recommended because:

  • It's not sterile for mucous membranes
  • It can cause thinning of the mucosa with chronic use
  • Absorption risk is higher inside the nose, especially with damaged skin
  • It may worsen dryness or bleeding long term

💡

This is very common, and usually caused by extreme dryness and cracking of the nasal mucosa. Safer and more effective first-line options include:

✅

  • Saline nasal spray (e.g., Ayr, Ocean) – multiple times daily
  • Nasal gels like Ayr Saline Nasal Gel – great for keeping the mucosa moist
  • Humidifier – especially at night
  • Petroleum jelly or Aquaphor – apply a small amount just inside the nostrils (not deep) with a clean cotton swab"
