I’m not a dating app user, but some of my friends have used it to then got a relationship out of it. In my mind it’s a logical next step.

My perspective is absolutely biased because I am a woman, but it really is like a game. Apps are just a reflection of the state of society.

The “appeal” is that people gravitate towards apps because at least you know the other person is single. If 1/2 of people are taken the cold approach you automatically reduce chances by 50%. (But in reality even starting at 50% you probably have better odds of finding someone on the cold approach)

I don’t know about the user functions but I’m sure there’s a way to display your intentions with that person. The problem is that most lie about what they want out of it. At any rate, it seems to me that these dating platforms aren’t truly in the business of facilitating connections. Successful connections —> fewer users and I think their business model is to keep as many people as possible active on the app in terms of login frequency and browsing duration, as well as length of time. Not a good environment in the first place due it’s superficial nature but I’d be pretty frustrated if I made it clear that I was looking for a connection and it didn’t end up working out because the other person lied.
