What separates humans from animals the most is the mental time travel. Humans can see that when someone leaves they will be back or if ur in pain you know it’ll go away eventually

But for animals it’s all eternal that’s why dogs are so happy when an owner comes back home they can’t predict the future or think on the future they always live in the now

This would also make an animals suffering much worse cause they can’t cope with knowing they will die soon or the pain will end its eternal to them

I’m so happy you said this, it’s so smart. People act like an animals supposed lack of reasoning is what makes their suffering ok but in reality it just makes it worse
Ironic that for many years what ppl used to feel morally right with animal suffering was they weren’t smart enough to feel emotion but that might be exactly why they feel more emotion more happiness but also more pain

You just made me feel bad about my dog, so he thinks I'm dead rn oh man :(
Hard to say what they think without being a dog but it is confirmed animals don’t think on the future at all

So they feel way more emotions than humans. Don’t we like to say the happiest moments is when everything else blurs out and we only think of what’s happening now? That’s basically a animals whole existence when they are happy they don’t think they have an exam tomorrow or know it’ll eventually end but the same goes for the bad things

So a dog likely isn’t aware of the possibility you will ever come back
