How tf is it a sad movie or an example of a bad relationship? Billy is not a bad person!

He's a broken man and has lost all trust in other people. That's why he's pushing them away by being mean, because he's scared of getting attached to others. Scared of being betrayed again (Photo booth scene)
And throughout the movie we see Layla slowly getting him to believe in the good in others and he's being more open.

Finally in the last act Billy has the option to leave her in the hotel room and stay capsuled from others or come back to Layla and give love another try.
He chooses the later and is happy and being nice to her by buying her a heart cookie, showing he's finally open to showing affection, which he was scared of before.

I love how they ended the movie the sweet way & how the relationship between them developed

Maybe some people interpret the relationship as "toxic" based on their "ideal" that the man should put more effort into the relationship and open up more even in the beginning of dating

Yeah that's probably it, fucking over for mentalcels

Some people are but are also to shy to be seen as "weak"/"easy to get" etc

Last time I was this nice to a dude irl he was just more weirded out idk
most people do not deserve kindness if im honest. i think its still worthwhile to be kind anyway, but most times it will get abused

I disagree

That people don't deserve kindness, I think everyone does to some extent
i think everyone deserves kindness no matter how bad they are. there is probably a reason they are that way. that is an idealistic way to think about it and i think people tend to think more consequentially, in the sense that even if i bad person might not be all that bad deep down, if you give them an opportunity to hurt you they might take it and people dont want that risk
