I think I have about 3B hair??
my hair is super dry on the ends and dry everywhere else. I usually just wet my hair in the morning put curl cream moose and gel. I don’t wear a bonnet or have a silk pillow or anything. My hair has also been thinning slightly. I really want to start wearing my hair down everyday because most people tell me I look best with that hairstyle versus a updo. I currently use Kirkland shampoo and conditioner, eco sports gel, pillow soft curls miss jessies, and Pantene soft curl mousse. I heard based was good but idk

ur hair is probably dry bc ur using strong hold products every day but not protecting / moisturizing enough. also not using a bonnet/silk pillowcase with curly hair is prolly a bad choice. and eco gel can be drying af for some ppl too. id switch to a more moisturizing shampoo / conditioner first before buying random stuff. also if ur hair is thinning js make sure to be gentle w it. based is decent but curlsmith, bounce curl, kinky curly knot today, miss jessies leave in condish etc usually work way better for dry curls I suppose.

when you put ur hair in a bonnet is it supposed to be down? Or in a ponytail? This is honestly one of the reasons I haven’t bought one. And is my hair supposed to be wet or dry? Also thank you for the product recs, I was questioning based because my brother uses it but his hair is much shorter and curlier than mine.

holy uh ok u usually wanna wear it down loosely in the bonnet like dont do a tight ponytail bc that can cause more breakage/thinning especially if ur already noticing that and that also goes in general curly hair or not tight hairstyles cause breakage over time. also ur hair should mostly be dry before sleeping since I'm pretty sure sleeping w wet hair constantly can isnt great for ur scalp. and yeah based probably works better for ur brother because like u said his curls r more tighter and shorter so it handles products differently.

Get a deep conditioner and report back after using

Any specific?
Not very. Maybe Love Ur Curls deep conditioner.
The important part is to use it between when you shampoo and condition.
Use it after you shampoo, and before you condition basically. And when you do that make sure to leave it in for like 5-10 minutes depending on the level of dryness you're dealing with

Also I think you could just use a leave in conditioner too lmao.
Idk why you haven't just done that yet
I lwk dk how to use stuff and what order to use them in lmao it’s hard for me to find advice because I don’t really know anyone in my area with my hair type or length

I have slightly looser curls than you. What I'll do after leaving shower on wash day is:

  • Spray leave in conditioner all over my hair and scrunch it in
  • Then take a small amount of mousse in my hands, and rake it through one side. Rinse my hands off, do the same for the other side, and then use an even smaller amount/no mousse at all for the top of my head (I use less on the top so it isn't flat & has volume)
  • Afterwards I tilt my head backwards, and do the same for the back of my head.
Then once that's over with I just scrunch all over my head.

It's worth noting though that I have fine, low porosity hair that can barely handle anything when it comes to products. So I only ever really use 2 when it comes to my hair (Camille Rose Leave in Conditioner, and Not your Mother's curl talk Mousse)

And if you're not looking to do all that, you could likely just get a hair oil.
You seem to have coarse hair, so I think it'd do good for you.

It's supposed to lock moisture into your hair so all you do with it is either put it on right after you've applied all other products, or put a few drops in your hands and use it to scrunch the gel cast out of your hair.

yeah I can try this tdy after school, I have the garnier hair oil but usually my hair doesn’t dry and make a gel cast until I get to school so I was gonna try diffusing

Diffusing will prob save you. It gives your hair more definition and volume as well.

Will it give me a lot of volume? I kinda like a smaller look
If you diffuse on low to medium heat to build a cast, and then scrunch that out with the oil, you should be good.
Me personally I think i use too little product to actually get a cast but im chill w it

okay okay I tried this like 20 mins ago my ends definitely look curlier but my hair is still kinda wet so I’ll give a better update when it’s fully dried. I used the amika shampoo, conditioner, leave in and curl cream. Trying to give their brand a shot I usually use smth else.
