⚠️ DISCLAIMER ⚠️

I am not a physician (MD/DO), nurse practitioner, nurse, physician assistant, or licensed aesthetic injector. I’m a pre-med student who has been researching cosmetic procedures on my own and sharing what happened to me—not giving medical advice or telling anyone to copy me.

Nothing here should be taken as medical advice, professional training, or instructions for self-administering Aqualyx or any other injectable. I’m sharing my experience because I know people are curious about it, but please do your own research and talk to a qualified medical professional before considering any injectable procedure.

Injectable fat-dissolving treatments can cause serious complications, especially when they’re performed incorrectly. Possible complications include severe swelling and pain, infection, abscesses, prolonged inflammation, lumps or nodules, uneven contours, nerve or blood-vessel injury, tissue damage, allergic reactions, scarring, and skin or fat necrosis.

Using local anesthetics such as lidocaine incorrectly can also cause systemic toxicity, including neurological symptoms, seizures, abnormal heart rhythms, cardiac arrest, and death.

Aqualyx is not FDA-approved as a fat-dissolving injectable in the United States. Products bought online may also have additional risks involving authenticity, sterility, storage, and handling.

This is my personal experience and research. It is not a substitute for medical evaluation, treatment planning, anatomy training, sterile-technique training, or treatment by a qualified healthcare professional.

My Experience

Hi girls! I wanted to share my experience using Aqualyx on my stomach because I wanted a flatter-looking abdomen and a more defined waist.

I’m 5’4” and around 110 lb, so I didn’t want to keep losing weight just to try to get rid of one stubborn area especially because I was already noticing that my face was getting thinner.

Before considering Aqualyx, I tried changing my workouts, meal prepping, and getting professional lymphatic drainage massages. I put a lot of effort into those things, but none of them gave me the change I wanted in this specific area.

Fat distribution is heavily influenced by genetics, and unfortunately we don’t get to choose where our bodies lose fat first. In my case, I noticed other areas getting leaner while my abdomen stayed relatively unchanged.(I personally don’t think you should attempt any fat dissolving treatment on the abdomen if you aren’t relatively lean or close to your goal weight because it’s a large region and will require multiple sessions if you are on the fatter side, which will just end up costing you more money and time but if you like it I love it I guess)

Exercise can strengthen the muscles underneath an area, but it can’t selectively burn the fat directly above one specific muscle. Injectable fat dissolving treatments are different because they’re placed into localized subcutaneous fat, although they also come with risks that exercise and nutrition don’t.

Goal

My goal was to reduce a small amount of subcutaneous abdominal/flank fat so my stomach would look flatter and my waist would look more defined.

I wasn’t trying to use Aqualyx for overall weight loss. My concern was one localized area that had been bothering me even though I was already relatively lean.

Aqualyx does not eliminate visceral fat, which is the deeper fat surrounding the internal organs. So if someone’s abdominal fullness is related to visceral fat, bloating, posture, muscle structure, or something else, this type of treatment would not address that.

Supplies I Personally Used

For transparency, these were the supplies I personally had:

● Aqualyx obtained from a source I considered trustworthy
● Liquid lidocaine
● Alcohol preparation pads
● Insulin syringes (31g 8mm 1ML)
● Skin marker

I did look at the packaging and QR/authentication information, but I want to be honest that a QR code alone does not prove that an injectable bought online is authentic, sterile, stored correctly, or safe to inject. (Don’t buy from untrusted sources, aqualyx is generally a very bubbly substance because of the deoxycholic acid in it with a yellow/orange tint to the vial)

Grid Mapping

I used a grid-mapping technique because I wanted to be able to see the area I was working with and keep track of where I had treated.

I drew small lines across my stomach until they formed rectangular sections.

For my own session, my markings were approximately 1 cm apart. That is simply what I personally did and should not be treated as recommended injection spacing.

I avoided my belly button, visible stretch marks, and areas where I was worried about the underlying anatomy or didn’t feel like there was enough pinchable subcutaneous fat.

One thing I really want to emphasize is that drawing a grid on the skin does not make an injection site anatomically safe. You can’t reliably see blood vessels, nerves, fascia, muscle, or internal structures just by looking at or pinching the skin.

Lidocaine

Aqualyx burned a lot for me. During my first session, I didn’t use lidocaine, and the discomfort made it much harder for me to stay calm and consistent.

During later personal sessions, I did use lidocaine. I experimented with approximately 0.5–1 mL in an 8-mL Aqualyx vial. This is only a record of what I personally did—not a recommended mixing ratio or something I’m telling anyone else to recreate.

This is one of the parts I take seriously because lidocaine is an actual medication, not just a harmless numbing ingredient. Too much systemic exposure can cause local-anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST). Early symptoms can include numbness around the mouth (correcting chat gpt on this 😂 numbness around the mouth is usually only associated with dental numbing medicine because of the epinephrine in it a lot of the side effects that ChatGPT noted comes from lidocaine with epinephrine in it. I opted for using lidocaine without epinephrine because it messes with the potency of aqualyx.), a metallic taste, ringing in the ears, dizziness, agitation, or confusion. Severe toxicity can progress to seizures, dangerous heart rhythms, cardiovascular collapse, and death.

Lidocaine is mainly metabolized by the liver. I originally wondered whether the liver processing both lidocaine and Aqualyx could make the treatment work more slowly, but I haven’t found evidence to support that idea, so I wouldn’t make that claim.

Lidocaine’s elimination half-life is roughly 1.5–2 hours in healthy adults, but that can vary depending on the dose, liver function, medications, circulation, and other individual factors.

Topical anesthetic also counts as lidocaine exposure, so I wouldn’t automatically treat it as separate from injectable lidocaine when thinking about total exposure.

My Treatment

For my abdominal treatment, I used the grid I had drawn so I could keep track of the areas I intended to treat.

In my personal session, individual injection volumes ranged from approximately 0.1–0.3 mL per marked location, with markings approximately 1 cm apart.

Again, these numbers are only describing what I did. They are not recommended doses, spacing, needle-depth instructions, or a treatment protocol for anyone else.

I avoided my umbilicus, visible stretch marks, and areas where I was concerned about the underlying structures or didn’t feel there was enough subcutaneous fat.

I also took before photos. I’m glad I did because the swelling immediately afterward made my stomach look temporarily larger, and without photos it would have been easy to misjudge what was actually happening.

Repeat Treatments

I would not immediately inject an area again just because it looks uneven or swollen.

The inflammation is part of the treatment response, and the way the area looks right afterward is not the final result. I personally found it difficult to judge anything while the area was still swollen and tender. (Another post it that chat gpt excluded 😡 taking advil does help with the anti inflammatory response that you get after aqualyx but this isn’t medical advice and should be taken at your own discretion)

I wait at least several weeks before even considering whether another treatment makes sense. The appropriate timing depends on the product, the area treated, how the body responds, and guidance from a qualified medical professional. I don’t think one fixed timeline is automatically safe for everyone.

Aftercare & What I Experienced

For me, the swelling was most noticeable during the first couple of days.

For about the first 24 hours, I avoided very hot showers, saunas, and other steaming activities because I didn’t want to make an already irritated area feel worse.

During the first 48 hours, I used a wrapped cold pack intermittently for comfort. I never put the cold pack directly on my skin or left it on long enough to cause cold injury. ( 25 minutes on with the ice pack and 20 minutes off is what I personally used)

Once the initial tenderness had settled down, I started incorporating gentle abdominal massage and lymphatic-drainage massage into my routine. This was something I personally found comforting, but I don’t want to imply that it is required or that it guarantees better results.

I try to stay normally hydrated, but drinking excessive amounts of water will not make Aqualyx dissolve fat faster, and forcing huge amounts of water can be dangerous.

🚨 Know the Red Flags

Some swelling, tenderness, bruising, and firmness can happen after injectable treatments, but I would not assume that every severe symptom is just proof that the product is “working.”

Seek medical attention for severe or rapidly worsening pain, redness or heat that keeps spreading, fever, pus or drainage, significant blistering, skin that becomes unusually pale, dusky, blue, or black, worsening numbness or weakness, severe systemic symptoms, fainting, seizures, difficulty breathing, or an abnormal heartbeat.

If something feels seriously wrong, I would rather get checked than wait and hope it resolves on its own.

Final Thoughts

My biggest takeaway is that more product does not automatically mean better results, and treating more often does not automatically mean faster results.

I also realized that being comfortable with needles is not the same as understanding abdominal anatomy, pharmacology, sterile technique, complication recognition, or complication management.

Localized fat-dissolving treatments are still invasive procedures, even when the treatment area seems small and the product is marketed as simple.

This is just my personal experience and research. I’m sharing it because I know people are curious, but I’m not recommending that anyone recreate what I did.

Thank you to everyone who read this thread I appreciate it. Sorry if the video is bad quality I was on a call and screen recording so it might not be the best visual representation. Side note I have just attempted my first ever DIY procedure on my submental region and I might share it maybe idk. Thank you and always research before attempting to do anything on yourself.

My friend tried it for her double chin it didn’t really work that well and she ended up spending so much money for no desirable outcome. I figured if it didn’t work I’d double chin why would it work for such a large area of fat on my stomach.
