Most people think that Ashkenazi Jews are white because they have mixed with Europeans for thousands of years, but this is wrong. Most of them do not even look white.
Genetic breakdown looks more like:
~50-65% Levantine/Middle Eastern ancestry (Semitic base).
~50-40% Southern European admixture (mainly Italian/Greek from like 1.5–2k years ago).
So when you plot them, they don’t sit with Northern Europeans. They land somewhere between Middle Eastern populations and Southern Europeans. That’s why historically their classification has always been fluid — sometimes “white enough,” sometimes not.
Calling them just “white” is like saying Turks are European because part of Turkey touches Europe. Technically you can argue it, but genetically and historically it doesn’t really match. Ashkenazis are their own cluster, not the same as the core Euro gene pool.
