Idk, I feel like shit rn and wanna get this off my chest.

1. He's a narcissistic loser:
Billy is very interested in his image, thinking that everyone is looking at him. He struggles showing weakness.
But at the same time he's a loser. No friends, no close family, no partner, no money, no social skills, etc

2. Loneliness:
We see that Billy's mother and father aren't close to him, not even remembering his chocolate allergy. Billy also seems to have no real friends. He leaves the prison without anyone waiting for him to pick him up.

13845.webp

3. Wants to be accepted/acknowledged
Takes big risks like kidnapping a woman to get acknowledged by his parents, which doesn't work out. Same thing with the betting scene.

4. Lack of confidence
Billy never shows any kind of actual, not acted, confidence. The only time we see the actual him, the only time he felt confident enough to open up, is in the bowling alley. This shows he can't open up when he thinks he isn't good at something. The other time is in the last scene when he's talking on the phone and he finally accepts the idea of being loved by someone, showing his true emotions once again.

5. Fear of rejection:
Yeah that's probably the most important part. Throughout the movie we see Layla constantly trying to get closer to him, but he only shields himself from any affection. Trying to shake hands instead of hugging or eagerly trying to hide any hint of him being comfortable around Layla, for example when he says "I was only kidding when I said I wanted to lay down with you".

6. He's a nice guy:
I hate when people try acting like he's evil. Billy is very nice. Not once did he treat Layla badly unless he had to for the goal of deceiving his parents. He has a pure soul and the point of the story is that Layla can see that even though he's emotionally unavailable on the outside.

13848.webp

7. He cares about what others think of him:
Yeah that's basically the whole plot the movie. Him trying to look good in front of his parents. Same thing with Layla and in the bowling alley.

TLDR:
Billy is a narcissist loser, without social skills, searching for affection.

My take on the movie and on myself:
Billy is by far my favorite character out of any media. I've never related to someone this much.
Sadly this also means my circumstances are bad, because unless I find a Layla on my own, a person who can love this faulty me, I don't think anyone will ever love me at all.
And outside of movies I doubt there's someone who's willing to do this, because I have nothing to give besides my love, which is useless.

Don't judge me, I've never done anything like this before, especially not in English.
10/10 Movie, if only this would happen irl
