Hello everyone. 23 male.

I have had facial asymmetry, overbite + crossbite since childhood. Plus recessed maxilla and lower jaw. Unfortunately my family didn't take me to an orthodontist during my childhood/teenage years.

I got an appointment with an orthodontist on Saturday and he told me I need to extract all 4 wisdom teeth and get Damon braces. But I live in a 3 world country and the medical field is not that developed, so I wanted to ask for more opinions.

I've been slowly getting into the idea of surgery (bimax + genioplasty), but there are no doctors who can/will perform it here. So I'm thinking about going to turkey for it (live very close).

My question is, what would be better in my situation: First Damon braces, and THEN surgery, or the other way around.

Would be glad if someone helps me! 🙏

Probably braces then surgery

Should be covered by insurance imo

Surgery then braces

So what do I do? 😅

The opinions are split, wherever I ask. In terms of insurance, maybe I can get it covered, but tbh I don't trust surgeons here (Azerbaijan), especially with such a complex surgery.

So would rather pay out of pocket. Already contacted one Turkish surgeon's team totoday via WhatsApp and waiting for their verdict.

No, you paint the new house

Why would you get braces before a procedure that will fundamentally change your bite….

You get the surgery, then you correct it and solidify with braces.

Would you paint a house just as you’re going to demolish it and build a new one?

Would you say, my issue is impossible to correct without surgery, I'm specifically talking about overbite + crossbite?

Braces obviously your teeth are not straight and your overbite isn’t terrible

The eyes are fucked anyway IMO, unless I get box osteotomy, which is extremely risky and I'm not willing to do it. I was more so talking about the bite issues and the side profile.

Overall, I agree with you tho. Just want to get as much info as possible before making such an important decision.

In doubt just ask your orthodontist

The issue is most doctors here are "copers." It's like having GH deficiency and instead of prescribing you GH, an endocrinologist prescribes some herbal medicine. Actually had this exact same experience at 15 years old, later took GHRP-6 (peptide) myself and grew 3.1 inches in 5 months.

Plus by admitting surgery he loses a client. So I don't know what to do exactly.

But I just contacted a maxillofacial surgeon in Turkey and waiting for their answer.
