true, there’s still a lot people spend on every day that could be better managed. Personally I’m very cheap and really live off the MINIMUM and when you compare that to other people or other people see me they really do find it different and odd. There’s more ways people waste money than they think

If I’m outside I won’t really spend money on food, I’ll buy groceries and wait until I get home to eat even if I’m hungry. I don’t go out much, most of my hobbies are free or cheap. I literally only have like a closet worth of stuff in total. I think a good rule is that if it doesn’t come into your head on your own that you need it, then you shouldn’t buy it. like for example don’t walk through target and then see something cute and convince yourself you could use it or to buy it just for it to sit around. Not having too much of certain things (no one needs 100 lipsticks for example), finding cheaper alternatives. It happens A LOT where I’ll be with someone and they wanna get something and I’ll be like “no that’s a waste of money”. but also at the end of the day it really is a kind of mindset to not be materialistic and place your joy on that

I also have some special life experiences I’ve gone through that have made me more like this compared to other people, I’ve been through both extremes of where we had a lot of money and could get whatever I wanted and then also losing that all and having to live in poverty. I remember my dad used to just buy me things instead of spending time with me as a kid and it always made me sad. Plus seeing them go from one to other showed what can happen if you’re financially irresponsible, and plus we lost almost all of our material things so I realized out of ALL that stuff there were only a few things I actually missed and needed and everything else could be forgotten at the end of the day. Plus I just like not having a lot of stuff and having a more clean empty living area because it makes me feel better and it’s easier to clean and deal with. And obviously being poor you learn to live below your means so yeah

but my parents always bought me whatever i wanted
