1st stage is attraction.
2nd is emotional attraction
3rd is care (most relationships are and end here)
4th is love

Zizek (who is my favourite philosopher when it comes to these things) believes that love is (to put it simply) an acceptance and fondess of imperfection in something you hold dearly. You can't aprieciate imperfection at first glance, and definitely not all of it.

I work with a lot of old people and the ones who have been with their partners for 25+ years always say that communicating your feelings and being willing to put in effort for your partner is what keeps their relationships strong
