from kidney failure. took her to the vet and found out she'll have to be euthanized. don't know how to process this...

she keeps switching between lying in bed and standing in front of her water bowl without being able to drink. she calls for me so I pet her while she attempts to drink but it's not helping. tried giving her water with a syringe but she could barely drink. atm I'm staying near her and keeping her warm with blankets.

Is there anything I can still do?

she loves me and she's in pain. one week ago she seemed to be fine. she even got a health checkup somewhat recently but her health just declined so fast.

Once they get to the stage of not eating/drinking anymore, it's statistically very rare for them to enter into recovery. Normally it's how vets diagnosis when a pet is reaching the end of their life.

Right now it would be about making her end of life care be better. I would recommend looking into anti-anxiety or anti-pain medicine if you're wanting her to die naturally instead of euthanasia. If you notice her mouth is very dry you can put a wet sponge oral swab thing to try and keep her mouth and gums wet to prevent her being uncomfortable. (An example of what they look like.)

Otherwise I would just give her love and patience.

my dog died a few months ago from kidney failure, the last week and a half of her life she was on the floor shaking with her ears pinned back and tail tucked, and could hardly breathe because her nostrils hardened and shut. honestly it was a relief when we put her down, please do not prolong the suffering of the animal that you claim to love, when its time for them to go dont think twice about it because they are definitely suffering and dont want to be alive

I'm sorry. just waiting on the vet atp. I have opiates/benzos but chatgpt saying human drugs would only make her suffer more, I don't think I could shoot her. is that selfish?

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for what you're going through. I know it probably doesn't mean much coming from a random dude on the internet but as a cat owner myself, I feel absolutely crushed just reading your post and it's not even about my cat. It like has me fucked up because I know what you're going through. If there's anything I can do for you let me know man.

I would monitor her for a bit and see how she acts. Feliway is a good anti-anxiety hormone for cats where you wouldn't have to force her to digest anything. It's not cheap though but it's normally sold in local pet stores so. I'm not sure where you live but here it's easy to access. Otherwise I would call the vet and ask them if they had anything they could prescribe you that you could pick up quickly.

Normally pets take the same type of medicine we do, but their dosage information is very different. I would wait, or call them and explain to them what you have and ask how you should cut it up if they suggest anything. Shooting her would just cause trauma on you and would not make the death grieving process any easier long term, admittedly. I think waiting for the vet to put her down is probably a better idea for now, if you have plans to do so.

i mean if you shot her you could catch a few legal charges unless you live on a private property in the middle of nowhere. just call one of the euthanasia services, they'll come to your house and give your cat an overdose of a barbiturate and she will drift off to sleep with 0 pain

Brutal bruva

I’m sorry bhai, it can be really hard. But I think the most human thing to do is to euthanize her. Don’t prolongue her suffering
