I'm 25. I’ve already lost about 30 pounds and I still have more work to do, but I wanted some outside opinions.

I’ve consulted with a few surgeons and orthodontists. Every time they pretty much rule out double jaw surgery because my bite is good, my occlusion is normal, and they say my airway looks fine. So medically they don’t see a reason to do DJS.

That said, I still feel like my lower third looks off and my side profile is pretty weak. I’m attaching my ceph X-ray so people can take a look. I’m not expecting a medical diagnosis obviously, but I’m curious what people here think structurally.

Some questions:
  • Does this look like mandibular recession or just a weak chin?
  • If DJS is usually ruled out in cases like this, would something like a sliding genioplasty be the typical option?
  • Could weight loss alone improve the look of the lower third, or is that mostly bone structure?
  • Are there other procedures people usually consider in cases where the bite is fine but the profile still looks recessed?
Again, I know this forum can be a bit chaotic but I’m genuinely curious about structural opinions. I’ve already spoken to surgeons, I’m just trying to understand what people who analyze cephs and facial structure see here.

Thanks.
