Discussion Dating down vs. dating your looksmatch: pros, cons and mental cost

I’ve been thinking about a common dating dilemma that doesn’t get discussed often: dating down vs dating your looksmatch. I feel like a lot of guys (and girls since it's .com) run into this at same point. Both options have clear pros and cons, but they lead to very different day to day lives and long term satisfaction. In the end, it's a tradeoff between comfort and fulfillment and that's where the dilemma starts. So, I decided to do a pros and cons (ik ik jfl):

Option 1: Dating down

Pros:
- Minimal compromises i.e. life on tutorial mode. You watch your favorite shows, order your favorite takeouts and so on. Her preferences are secondary.
- Sex is enthusiastic.
- She’s grateful for your attention, validation is easier.
- Low drama, low emotional investment.

Cons:
- The “I could do better” voice lurking in the back of your head (FOMO).
- Slightly unfulfilled emotionally.
- Less personal growth; don't feel challenged; higher chances of letting yourself go.
- Less passion. Weaker erections and occasional ED cause un-necessary mental distress.


Option 2: Dating your looksmatch

Pros:
- Physically and socially compatible. Mutual attraction feels real leading to higher emotional satisfaction.
- Shared experiences feel more validating.
- You’re building a relationship on equal footing.
- Chemistry, and challenge keep things exciting.

Cons:
- Life on difficult setting, more compromise required.
- Conflicts may arise more often. Emotional labor is higher.
- You sacrifice some comfort and convenience.
- Can feel less stable or predictable than dating someone below your level.


And after allat, I still can't decide, might end up doing a full SWOT analysis now that I think of it One thing I know for sure is that I absolutely cannot jestermaxx for a girl above my league (these things happen), so I draw my line there.

I'm curious which option would you pick tho if it came down to this.

i mean the more important stuff to me is build and if hes a driven and affectionate person (bonus points if he has a nice accent)

if i read that correctly, you prefer to date down (looks being the barometer here) a guy who brings value in other areas.

i wouldnt say down, if i like him as a person and hes gl then its just a bonus yk ?
a good personality in a man to me is;

• driven

i wouldnt say down, if i like him as a person and hes gl then its just a bonus yk ?

are you sure the order is likeable and gl lol. it's the other way around usually (meets the looks threshold, check. personality, check), which is not wrong or anything (it's what it is).

a good personality in a man to me is;

yeah ive dated men who arent gl but i liked them cos of the way they made me feel and they had the qualities of a good partner
so in the order of

1. loyal
2. affectionate
3. driven
4. funny
