No it’s just chemical firing to ensure our selfish genes propel themselves through time.
The only major different between pair-bonding and tournament species is the release of certain hormones and chemicals mediated by special neural circuits.
These release a higher concentration of ‘x’ factor, say (a hormone) when you see a person of the opposite sex or mate with them.
It’s just positive reinforcement done by nature.

you have different types of love: platonic, romantic, familial love soooooo you get what I mean. love exists in many different forms.
not to mention chemicals involved in love (oxytocin blah blah). i think love exists but people confuse strong, intense feelings with love. love can be rare though, most people will only ever experience one form of love, but one form is better than zero.

Yes that’s to do with emergence of consciousness.
This is actually a part of a much larger question having to do with the hard problem of consciousness.
But I digress, my point is.. in popular literature or belief ‘love’ is a feeling borne out of free will and agency. It’s something that’s at least somewhat unconditional. When in reality it’s all mechanical, hormonal and contextual.

What this does is - firstly strip away the romanticism.
Then upon further analysis you find out that the hormonal picture tells us that relationships are transactional. There’s nothing loving about ‘love’. It’s all romanticizing romanticization because of cope

hard problem of mind can be solved by idealistic/neutral or double-aspect monism. or even panpsychism, this problem appears only in physicalism and eliminative materialism.
i agree that romanticism valued relationsship love too much, i think other ways of love are better (like platonic)

Never said it was only that.
Love is a complex mix of sexual attraction, validation you get from partner, support, intimacy, pleasure of being next to them.... but guess what? Those things are all reciprocal, you give and expect to receive the same experience. Love is selfish

If you don't get the wanted outcome of a partner, you stop (or never even begin) to love them. And that is why unconditional love doesn't exits
