Serious Do you think babies feel the same amount of pain grown up’s do?

Do you feel as if babies feel the same amount of pain as “grown people” do?


Like for example, let’s say a random 32 year old man gets his leg chopped off and then a baby gets its leg chopped off,

obviously you would imagine it would be on the “same level” of pain, but I feel like there’s some sort of capacitating factor to the baby.


The only difference between the man and the baby, is the understanding of pain, and their brains reaction to it.


The man is aware of what just happened, the man is afraid,the man understands he is in pain, the baby has no clue in the world.


Feel like it’s different between the two.

Babies also definitely can feel fear it's just a natural survival instinct. Maybe not as complex as the man's as the man would worry about things like work, his hobbies, will his wife still love him ,etc.

On a purely physiological level, yes.


This is how I think of it, the man has a fully developed prefrontal cortex.

He knows that losing a leg means he will never walk again, he might bleed to death, he will lose his job, his life is ruined.

I feel as if this “fear” amplifies the pain.

His brain releases stress hormones that make the pain worse

The baby has an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex. It lives entirely in the present moment. It has no concept of "permanent disability" or "mortality."
