Discussion Do you think god exists?

I hope tbh. Dying and nothing being after would be so scary.
you would not feel any fear if there is nothing
anyways due to infinity there is a probability we will exist again
Worshipping the sun is law, it gives everything. Dk how this relates to that balding nerdic tho
it gives a lot but what is the purpose?
time eternally is existing meaning what's happening now can happen infinitely many times back or in the futrue.
yes exactly
But who created time for it to do that
but then who created the person who created time? watchmaker fallacy
Imo god exists because everything points to a creator
but then who created god

right now most religions have their own personal gods that they try to comprehend from a human lens, so if there were an actual god he is probably not what most think

Idk how God always was it's impossible atlesy for man to understand
then why accept it
we must always search for answers
so you are suggesting god is infinite in all respects, transcending time and the need to be birthed? he is an intrinsic fact of the world?

Because in the Bible it says God is God was and will always be

My father used to say that God exists outside of time and space. He is not limited by time like us, he has no beginning or end. He is a higher form of existence. We don't understand this and that makes us ask questions about who created it

Because in the Bible it says God is God was and will always be
ok the bible says it is, but this does not answer my question
why use a book written by humans as a source of divine revelation? it just says god is god
i can say an apple is an apple it does not tell me what an apple is
also, why does god have to be the intrinsic fact?
why cant the universe itself be
the universe is infinite, just the mass inside of it is expanding in all directions
the universe is a fact and the things within are the result
these things are observable or calculatable
science does not yet have all the answers but they are being found
also, in the bible, god is seen as an all benevolent being but why does he kill people, especially in the old testament
the bible also has inaccuracies/contradictions and things we're not sure of the meaning of, like words we cannot interpret. i believe rn 2,500 words are ambigious
as for the old testament argument where god changed into nicer in new testament, here is the debunk of it:
Explain-Away #1: It’s an Old Testament Problem, which the New Testament Puts Right

You’ll hear many people say that they don’t like the God of the Old Testament; he’s all wrathful and angry. The God of the New, revealed in Christ, is all peaceful and loving. Wright shows this is false because not only does the OT often speak of God as loving, compassionate, and willing to be merciful (e.g. Gen. 18; Ex. 34:6-7; Ps. 103:8-14; 145:9, 13, 17; Jer. 31:3, 20; Hos. 3:1), but the New Testament—Jesus especially—does not shy away from speaking of God’s judgment (e.g Matt. 10:15, 13:40-42, 18:34, 22:13, 25:41). Take this illustrative passage from Hebrews 10:26-31:

For if we deliberately go on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire about to consume the adversaries. Anyone who disregarded the law of Moses died without mercy, based on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think one will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God, who has regarded as profane the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know the one who has said, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

This argument of a change in God’s attitude from one testament to the next cannot hold water. Wright quotes bible scholar John Wenham who summarizes things well:

It is fallacious to regard this as essentially an Old Testament problem, and to set the “bloodthirsty” Old Testament over against the “gentle” New Testament. Possibly the phenomenon is more crude in the Old Testament than in the New, but of the two the New Testament is the more terrible, for the Old Testament seldom speaks of anything beyond temporal judgments . . . whereas the Son of man in the Gospels pronounces eternal punishment.
So, really, there is no way to get around this. 1 Samuel is a historical narrative that seeks to establish the truth of what really happened. Anyone who is serious about the Bible being God’s word is going to believe that God both commanded Saul to eliminate the Amalekites and empowered him to have the victory. The weight is heavy; so, how do we carry it?
for some context, god commanded saul to genocide the amelikites, including the babies and infants
1 Samuel 15:3. This verse records the words of God through the prophet Samuel to Saul, “Now go and attack the Amalekites and completely destroy everything they have. Do not spare them. Kill men and women, infants and nursing babies,[1] oxen and sheep, camels and donkeys.”
i cannot live with a biblical god who is purported to be benevolent and say this. and unfortunately the article does not answer my questions or excuse god's actions imo

brutal no reply

 True
in the bible, god is seen as an all benevolent being but why does he kill people, especially in the old testament
God of the Bible is a just and fair God that's why eye for an eye tooth for a tooth was created and God in the Bible says he is the same as he was yesterday. He knows man at the core is a truly evil species God also said he would give man over to their animalistic mind and evil thoughts.
the bible also has inaccuracies/contradictions and things we're not sure of the meaning of, like words we cannot interpret. i believe rn 2,500 words are ambigious
Never heard of this I only read the kjv

God said the heart of man is wicked and evil so wicked that even the apostles will only make it into heaven by the skin of thier teeth

God also killed 42 children with 2 bears because they mocked an apostle

A baby wolf doesn't grow up to be an cute little bunny

These groups god slaughtered mocked and disobeyed god killed,r***d,sacrificed and gave over to Satan so they were by no means good or saints

Same thing like when god wiped out Humanity only leaving Noah and his family

I was typing jfl
mb
Because the universe would have to have an orgin which would mean it was created
but then who created the creator
this is the thing, nobody knows so you cannot confirm nor deny
this argument does not prove the existence of god

what? why is human a truly evil species
and an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind, it does not lead to love
Never heard of this I only read the kjv
i will find the sauce one sec
God said the heart of man is wicked and evil so wicked that even the apostles will only make it into heaven by the skin of thier teeth
yes but god created humans and the circumstances around them that shaped them to be this way
like people say, things are predetermined like genes and environment, and then they die and go to hell
God also killed 42 children with 2 bears because they mocked an apostle
this is cruel
A baby wolf doesn't grow up to be an cute little bunny
we are all humans there are no inherent wolves and bunnies
this just suggests predertiminism that from the start some babies are meant for heaven and others doomed to hell
there is no mercy behind this
These groups god slaughtered mocked and disobeyed god killed,r***d,sacrificed and gave over to Satan so they were by no means good or saints
ok, but what did the babies do
Same thing like when god wiped out Humanity only leaving Noah and his family
that is mean

but then who created the creator
God said he always was so he never said he was created
what? why is human a truly evil species
and an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind, it does not lead to love
Because humanity fell from grace when Adam and eve disobeyed God and was punished
yes but god created humans and the circumstances around them that shaped them to be this way
like people say, things are predetermined like genes and environment, and then they die and go to hell
Yes I guess this was God's plan for humanity
we are all humans there are no inherent wolves and bunnies
this just suggests predertiminism that from the start some babies are meant for heaven and others doomed to hell
there is no mercy behind this
Yes I believe the Bible touches on this that some were meant for hell
ok, but what did the babies do
Idk I agree its sad but nothing can be done

God said he always was so he never said he was created
but why cant this apply to the existence of the universe
there is a suggestion that the universes are part of a cycle of creation and destruction
so the existence itself is infinite
both of these things are theories: the infinite existence of god and the infinite cyclical nature of the world
Because humanity fell from grace when Adam and eve disobeyed God and was punished
why are people punished for wanting knowledge? (the fruit of knowledge)
and they were tricked anyhow
we go to school to learn, you even likely go to church and read the bible to learn about your religion
yet those people were punished and now others suffer and go to hell due to innocent curiosity
Yes I guess this was God's plan for humanity
so it is all predetermined? over
Yes I believe the Bible touches on this that some were meant for hell
brutal. not merciful whatsoever
Idk I agree its sad but nothing can be done
why?
why do we just accept the killing of babies because somebody claimed that god told them to do so
we have cults nowadays, people claiming to be prophets of god and then they kill people

@Clone , as for the source of the ambigious words in the bible, they are hapax legomena
hapax legomena means that they are used only once ever, so sometimes the meaning is not known
like if in the middle of a book i said, he woii;eg;fegfp, and youve never seen this word before, you will probably not know the meaning
this leads to unknownness
The number of hapax legomena in the Bible depends on how they are counted and which texts are used, but there are approximately 3,414 words that appear only once in the Bible:
  • Hebrew Bible: There are 1,480 distinct hapax legomena in the Hebrew Bible, but only 400 are "true" hapax legomena. This is because of Hebrew roots, suffixes, and prefixes.
  • New Testament: There are approximately 1,934 hapax legomena in the New Testament.
  • Total Bible: There are approximately 3,414 words that appear only once in the Bible, which account for nearly 25% of the total vocabulary.
A hapax legomenon is a Greek term that means "being said once". It refers to words or expressions that only appear in a text once.

It wasn't innocent curiosity. They were explicitly ordered not to do something, and did it.

Fucking shit I created acc on this forum to do shitposting but now I read philosophic topics. Brutal

ok, but if you tell a kid not to drink the bottle from your top cabinet (aka your alcoholic cabinet) but then they get curious and pull up a chair in the middle of a knight and have a sip, will you torture them and then send their descendants to eternal damnation
why is there such a strictness in obedience? humans like being free and pursuing knowledge. we are often told not to do things but we do them anyways and it leads to enlightenment about topics

God is simply a concept an idea that we came up with in the past to make sense of who designed the universe, who set the rules, so we echo God's rules that basically the nature of things to make sense.

and I also think that many religions evolved as a coping mechanism to deal with the fact that we have consciousness.

interesting, i also think it stems from a fear of the unknown
we did not know what was out there, and like you said, we needed copes

also humans wanted power, they wanted to say they had the divine right to rule as kings/emperors and as popes/priests
+ to have people give them money and stay obedient/slaves

but why cant this apply to the existence of the universe
there is a suggestion that the universes are part of a cycle of creation and destruction

Fair point, but I think this instance in the old testament is especially punishable because the world was good, now it is different.

I heard of something like this interesting

@sigma The old testament was full of violence and evil to show man they couldn't be saved without a savior

I wish man stayed innocent and pure and didn't know what evil and good was

It could but isn't the universe a collective of atoms
no the universe is infinite space, within it are atoms
sometimes the universe itself and the collective mass within it are used interchangeably because avg people would not really be astronomy specialists and whatnot
Because man was made holy and not aware of evil once they ate the fruit there eyes would be opened to what evil was and God didn't want humanity to have knowledge he wanted them to be pure like children
why?
at some point all fledglings will leave the nest, and maybe the parent birds will be sad
but this is life
if we dont have knowledge then we are no more than dumb animals in the fields
Yes and no
elaborate
because of genetics god told people to kill tribes because alot of them mixed with demons
but why are people inherently evil? what about nurture?
and why did god make them born evil and then cast them to hell? being setup for suffering
Fair point, but I think this instance in the old testament is especially punishable because the world was good, now it is different.
why?
god is omnipotent he sees all and he knows all, he knows the past and future and everyones actions
he would know it is differnet today
this is unfair punishment
additionally, did you read one of my other posts where i wrote about old vs new testament argument under a spoiler?
@sigma The old testament was full of violence and evil to show man they couldn't be saved without a savior
why do they need a savior? humans can be capable on their own without a church, they can have morals without
a god is not required for people to create a sense of self
I wish man stayed innocent and pure and didn't know what evil and good was
why? he cannot appreciate life then
we find beauty amongst chaos
being blissed 24/7 is like being a blind sheep spammed with dopamine
or like one of those VR cows to make them happy
1730072932358.png
people would be unable to be grateful without letdowns in life
kinda like how rich coddled kids end up ungrateful

no the universe is infinite space, within it are atoms
sometimes the universe itself and the collective mass within it are used interchangeably because avg people would not really be astronomy specialists and whatnot
What's space just emptiness
why?
at some point all fledglings will leave the nest, and maybe the parent birds will be sad
but this is life
if we dont have knowledge then we are no more than dumb animals in the fields
God never intended us to leave the nest we're his creation he made us to be what he wanted he has every right to
elaborate
God knows our fate but he also gives us a choice to change that
but why are people inherently evil? what about nurture?
and why did god make them born evil and then cast them to hell? being setup for suffering
Well the babies didn't go for hell king david confirmed this when he was talking to God
why?
god is omnipotent he sees all and he knows all, he knows the past and future and everyones actions
he would know it is differnet today
this is unfair punishment
additionally, did you read one of my other posts where i wrote about old vs new testament argument under a spoiler?
All God wants is for his creation to serve him
why do they need a savior? humans can be capable on their own without a church, they can have morals without
a god is not required for people to create a sense of self
Man rapes and kills each other each man has different morals also Man can't choose his fate
why? he cannot appreciate life then
we find beauty amongst chaos
being blissed 24/7 is like being a blind sheep spammed with dopamine
or like one of those VR cows to make them happy
We wouldn't know because we would have zero knowledge

What's space just emptiness
yes
kind of like if you leave a cube within a vaccuum chamber except the vaccuum chamber is infinite and the mass within it starts getting occupied by liquids, gases, solids, plasma, etc
God never intended us to leave the nest we're his creation he made us to be what he wanted he has every right to
we are owned by him
meant to remain in his garden
he does whatever he wants to us
so we are his slaves?
God knows our fate but he also gives us a choice to change that
how? you said some people are genetically evil and need to be killed
there is no mercy or hope/chance in this unnecessary suffering
and like you said, things are predetermined
our choices are based on our genes and experiences
if a dog bit you when you are little you will probably cross the street if you see a dog walking by
this is a choice based on your past experiences
and if he knows our fate then it contradicts giving a choice because it wont change our fate
Well the babies didn't go for hell king david confirmed this when he was talking to God
god blocked all the amelekites from entering heaven
maybe you are talking about babies overall
but here i mean speciifcally the amalekite babies
exodus 17:14
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”
All God wants is for his creation to serve him
so we're slaves

it is natural for slaves to rebel
Man rapes and kills each other each man has different morals also Man can choose his fate
yes but all humans do so regardless of religion. atheists, buddhists, muslims, christians, they all r**e and kill
people can have morals without religin
why do people need a religion
i do not r**e nor kill yet i am not christian
why is religion a must i see many people without it and they are not evil
even mr beast is agnostic (or at least he is definitely not christian, he has stated this b4 that he was raised christian but left) and he is a philantropist, does more than what people of religion do and he is very morally good overall imo albeit not perfect bc nobody is we're all human
We wouldn't know because we would have zero knowledge
so we would be stupid slave animals
what sense is there in that
we wouldnt appreciate anything

liquids, gases, solids, plasma,
These things need to be created

Well idk god says he fair and just so I assume he gives those who are deeply evil a choice to change
god blocked all the amelekites from entering heaven
maybe you are talking about babies overall
but here i mean speciifcally the amalekite babies
exodus 17:14
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”
He did the same with other tribes also they were so wicked god couldn't let them live because they would just cause more destruction
so we're slaves

it is natural for slaves to rebel
Not slaves no slave is doing something you don't want

In heaven we would be enjoying our time time god
yes but all humans do so regardless of religion. atheists, buddhists, muslims, christians, they all r**e and kill

Real Christians don't do any of that it's against gods word

Mr beast faked his videos also and scammed people before doing yt he uses good acts for views he been exposed already

Also god never said to follow religion he said to have a personal relationship with him

so we would be stupid slave animals
what sense is there in that
we wouldnt appreciate anything
No it wouldn't be like that your seeing it as form of punishment like us just being dumb robots with no free will or feelings

No it wouldn't be like that your seeing it as form of punishment like us just being dumb robots with no free will or feelings
but that is what it is like
These things need to be created
yes by the big bang
Not slaves because our lives would have been peaceful and full of joy
we do not know of peace or joy without pain
for example adam was lonely in the garden so eve was created
it shows that you need some kind of negativity to actually comprehend appreciate positivity
one cannot exist or at least be felt without the other
Well idk god says he fair and just so I assume he gives those who are deeply evil a choice to change
how
He did the same with other tribes also they were so wicked god couldn't let them live because they would just cause more destruction
that is also evil and merciless
him doing it multiple times doesnt justify it and make it, oh its normal bc he did it
Not slaves no slave is doing something you don't want

In heaven we would be enjoying our time time god
but some people dont like praying or attending mass or doing whatever the bible commands
or trying to gain knowledge like how adam and eve bit into the apple
it is slavery, although some are brainwashed
Real Christians don't do any of that it's against gods word
ok
but atheists can act the same as christians in terms of moral righteouness without god
Mr beast faked his videos also and scammed people before doing yt he uses good acts for views he been exposed already
i mean as in philantropy, not whatever else he does
we are all human
Also god never said to follow religion he said to have a personal relationship with him
then why do we have christianity
