I went to a football game a few months ago during football season. It was the only one I went to that season, and I did not attend in order to watch the game but rather to be paid by my school for volunteering to sell concessions. Once I was no longer needed to sell food, I left to go to a nearby fast food restaurant which I reckon was a half mile away so that I could be picked up and driven home by my father. As I was walking to the restaurant, I hear from behind me a mtb loudly ask her mtb friend ask where the aforementioned fast food restaurant is. From where we were located, one was easily able to see the fast food restaurant being discussed. I felt no need to help because, 1. I dont initiate conversation with strangers, 2. I dislike talking to foids, and 3. the fast food restaurant was right fucking there. I continue walking, and then I hear them talking about how I am ignoring them, and how people from my school are often rude and unhelpful. I neither turn around nor acknowledge the discussion, hoping that they stop talking. They don't, and now, rather than just talking about me, they begin actively addressing me telling me to help them and acknowledge them. At this point I am very stressed and begin running away at a light, reasonably quick jog in order to evade them. They begin laughing and asking me why I am running. I don't know where they went after that because I never looked back. I still think of this interaction biweekly, contemplating a possible motive for why they were talking to me. I would be interested in hearing another person's perspective on this

Here is a summary of the incident and a perspective on why it likely happened.

Summary of the Post

The author attended a school football game a few months ago solely to volunteer at the concessions stand for pay. After finishing their shift, they walked about a half-mile toward a nearby fast-food restaurant to meet their father for a ride home.

While walking, the author overheard two girls behind them loudly wondering where that exact restaurant was. Even though the restaurant was clearly visible, the author chose not to point it out or intervene due to a personal discomfort with initiating conversations, a specific aversion to talking to women, and the fact that the building was obvious.

The girls noticed the author ignoring them and began criticizing the author and their school's students for being rude. When the girls shifted from talking about the author to actively calling out to demand help, the author became highly stressed and jogged away to escape. The girls laughed at the reaction. The author still thinks about this encounter every two weeks, wondering what the girls' motives were.

Perspective on the Interaction

It is completely understandable why this interaction felt stressful and has stuck around in your thoughts. When an interaction goes from zero to high-pressure quickly, it triggers a strong fight-or-flight response.

Looking at it from an outside perspective, there are two highly likely reasons the girls acted the way they did:

  • An Attempt to Start a Conversation (An "Icebreaker"): When people ask for directions to something that is blatantly obvious, they usually aren't actually lost. It is a very common, low-stakes way for people—especially teenagers or young adults—to try to initiate a conversation with someone around their age. They likely used the restaurant as an excuse to break the ice and talk to you.
  • Adolescent Insecurity and Ego: When you didn't respond, their feelings were likely hurt, or they felt embarrassed that their attempt to talk to you failed. To protect their own egos, they lashed out with negativity, projecting their embarrassment onto you by labeling you and your school as "rude." When you started to jog away, their laughter was likely a continuation of that defense mechanism to make light of a situation where they felt rejected.
The Takeaway: Their behavior was ultimately about them, not you. They tried a clumsy social icebreaker, handled the silence poorly, and reacted immaturely when you chose not to engage. You were under no obligation to talk to them, and running away was simply your brain's natural way of removing you from an uncomfortable, stressful environment.
Given how much this still occupies your thoughts, does looking at it as a mismatched social attempt rather than a targeted attack change how you feel about it?

Comprehensive Analytical Summary of the Concessions Volunteering and Pedestrian Avoidance Incident

Executive Overview

This document serves as an exhaustive, highly detailed breakdown of an interpersonal event that transpired during the recent scholastic football season. The core of the narrative involves a student volunteer who, after completing their designated operational duties at a sports venue, engaged in a pedestrian transit toward a local fast-food establishment for transport coordination. During this transit, an encounter occurred involving two unidentified peers, leading to a breakdown in communication, a brief moment of physical evasion, and subsequent long-term psychological contemplation regarding the motivation of the other party.

Phase 1: Contextual Background and Operational Motivation

The event in question is set against the backdrop of a standard high school or collegiate football game, occurring several months prior to this documentation. However, it is critical to establish that the primary agent's presence at this athletic gathering was entirely divorced from any athletic fandom or recreational spectator interest.
  • Frequency of Attendance: This specific game represented the singular, solitary instance of football attendance for the agent during the entire academic season.
  • The Financial Incentive: The sole driving force behind attending the venue was institutional compensation. The school offered monetary remuneration in exchange for labor, specifically the preparation, handling, and distribution of food and beverage items at the stadium's concessions stand.
  • The Shift Conclusion: Upon the fulfillment of the required duties—specifically, when the demand for concessions waned and the management deemed the agent's labor no longer necessary—the agent officially concluded their shift and prepared to exit the stadium perimeter.

Phase 2: Post-Shift Transit and Environmental Geography

With the operational shift completed, the agent initiated a logistical plan to return to their primary residence. This required navigating the surrounding urban or suburban infrastructure on foot to reach a designated rendezvous point.
  • The Destination: The chosen destination was a nearby commercial fast-food establishment, serving a dual purpose as both a landmark and a safe waiting area.
  • Spatial Metrics: The distance between the stadium exit and the fast-food establishment was estimated by the agent to be approximately 0.5 miles (roughly 800 meters).
  • Logistical Coordination: The agent’s father was designated as the transport operator, tasked with arriving at the fast-food location to pick up the agent and provide vehicular transit back home.
  • Visual Parameters: Due to the flat topography or open layout of the area, the fast-food restaurant was prominently visible to the naked eye from the vantage point of the pedestrian pathway.

Phase 3: The Interpersonal Encounter and Cognitive Triangulation

While executing the walk toward the restaurant, the agent's auditory senses captured a vocalized query originating from behind their position. The individuals speaking were identified as two female peers from the same local ecosystem.

The Dialogue and Visual Contradiction

One of the female peers asked her companion, in a volume loud enough to be easily overheard, where the aforementioned fast-food restaurant was located. This query immediately triggered a cognitive evaluation by the agent, who noted a stark contradiction: the building they were actively searching for was within direct, unobstructed line of sight.

The Triple-Threshold Decision for Non-Engagement

The agent consciously decided to remain entirely passive and withhold any navigational assistance. This decision was governed by a strict, three-tiered framework of personal boundaries and social preferences:
[TR]
[td]Threshold Layer[/td][td]Core Motivation for Silence[/td]
[/TR]
[TR]
[td]Layer 1: Social Axiom[/td][td]The agent maintains a strict behavioral rule against initiating spontaneous verbal dialogue with unintroduced individuals or strangers.[/td]
[/TR]
[TR]
[td]Layer 2: Demographic Preference[/td][td]The agent harbors a specific aversion to engaging in social discourse with young women or female peers.[/td]
[/TR]
[TR]
[td]Layer 3: Objective Redundancy[/td][td]Providing verbal directions was deemed entirely unnecessary because the target structure was physically visible to anyone looking in its general direction.[/td]
[/TR]

Phase 4: Escalation, Verbal Friction, and Behavioral Response

As the agent maintained a steady forward trajectory without offering assistance, the social dynamics behind them began to rapidly deteriorate. The female peers noticed the lack of response and shifted the focus of their conversation.

The Shift to School-Wide Criticism

Initially, the two individuals began discussing the agent in the third person, noting that they were being deliberately ignored. They quickly expanded this observation into a broader generalization, loudly commenting that students from the agent's specific academic institution possessed a reputation for being inherently rude, dismissive, and unhelpful to others.

The Direct Confrontation

When passive commentary failed to elicit a response, the individuals escalated their tactics. They shifted from talking about the agent to actively and directly addressing them. They issued verbal demands, insisting that the agent acknowledge their presence, turn around, and provide the assistance they were asking for.

Phase 5: The Evasion Strategy and Long-Term Psychological Resonance

The transition from indirect criticism to direct verbal confrontation caused a sharp spike in the agent's internal stress levels, necessitating an immediate change in tactical behavior.
Code:
[Verbal Confrontation] ➔ [Elevated Stress Levels] ➔ [Initiation of Light Jog] ➔ [Auditory Feedback (Laughter)] ➔ [Successful Evasion]
  • The Physical Evacuation: Overwhelmed by the pressure of the confrontation, the agent opted against verbal defense and instead initiated a physical retreat. They accelerated their pace into a light, reasonably swift jog, utilizing speed to create distance and evade further social interaction.
  • The Peer Reaction: The sudden burst of physical movement from the agent prompted an immediate reaction of amusement from the two individuals, who began to laugh out loud and mockingly call out, questioning the rationale behind the sudden running.
  • The Clean Break: Maintaining a strict policy of forward momentum, the agent never rotated their head or looked backward to assess the position or subsequent actions of the individuals. Consequently, their ultimate destination and path remain entirely unknown.

Conclusion and Ongoing Cognition

Though the physical event concluded within a matter of minutes, the psychological impact of the encounter remains active. The agent continues to mentally revisit and analyze this brief social friction on a biweekly basis (approximately once every fourteen days). The primary focus of this recurring contemplation is an attempt to decode the true underlying motives of the two female peers—specifically, whether their inquiry was a genuine, albeit unobservant, request for directions, or if it was an intentional provocation designed to elicit a reaction. To this day, the exact catalyst for their behavior remains an open query that the agent frequently deliberates upon.
