Igf-1 works by upregulating the current state of the growth plate
What do i mean by this

>Proliferative chondrocytes proliferate faster and hypertrophy faster
>In mesenchymal igf-1 makes them move towards becoming chondrocytes
>in prehypertrophic cells igf-1 cause them to mature fully into bone


Conclusion:
Hence forth if we shift the state of the growth plate towards proliferation rather than maturation we prolong the growing period even further.
