you can never be high in intelligence and low in emotional intelligence ever. the g-factor disproves this.

g-factor: individuals who excel in one area of intelligence are likely to perform well in others
- iq does not = knowledge.
-
there is really not any definitive answers regarding its independence from iq: ability-based emotional intelligence (which is one parameter of EI we can study through tests) is strongly related to iq
- while other measures ("trait-based" and "mixed", which are obtained through self-reporting) show a different picture, but with your EI bringing societal implications with it (people overestimate when it's convenient and generally aren't able to assess their competence), the last two models aren't exactly reliable.
- if you want to interpret EI as having personality baked into it, then it does probably deviate from pure relation to iq, if you want to interpret it as the higher-level ability, the construct which helps us process audiovisual/sensory input related to emotional responses, then it's likely just intelligence

yep, if u define emotional intelligence as an ability (say processing and responding to emotional info), then it’s basically just another domain of intelligence, so low EI with high IQ would be unlikely. the confusion comes from when ppl talk about trait-based or self-reported EI, bc that mixes personality and perception, instead of measuring pure cognitive skill.
