Each moderator has their own requirements and/or personal vibes for determining who they want to nominate for the polls. Unlimitedly it's Dean who creates the poll, so just because a moderator nominates you for the poll it doesn't necessarily mean you'd get added to the poll let alone win it.

My personal requirement is to pick a looksmaxxing contributor. I don't have to agree with what they post, they just have to represent what the site is in theory (a desire to learn, a desire to educate, a desire to share).

I also will maybe mention certain off topic posters I like, which will mainly be based off of personality (shows kindness and is welcoming to others). But I won't actually write a paragraph about why I'm advocating for them to be added to the poll like I would with the looksmaxxing contributor. Most of the other mods will nominate other users and they're more familiar with the Off Topic category than I am and I will normally trust their judgement.

The poll is private and only moderators+ vote on it. If we included the users, it would be a popularity poll and would not be fair to the people involved.

It normally happens every 30 days or so, to my understanding. So this time we (probably) had +2 votes because we were voting for two users, but I assume by default we probably have +1 vote. You can nominate/advocate for as many users as you want, though. Advocating for a user doesn't mean their chances of winning has increased, it just means their chances of being added to the poll has increased.
