my bite is slightly off thats why my dentist recommended to get braces :,)
I see, well it depends on what type of misalignment it is. Whatever the case is, do NOT get elastics :bongotap: If they try to make u wear them then ur very likely a good contender for bimax or bsso
although i do want to improve my looks i dont want to go through cosmetical surgeries or get fillers cuz it would definitely make me feel kinda fake (even if it means me staying chopped 🤞)
when it comes to jaw osteotomies like bimax, there rly isn’t a reason to feel fake

You’d essentially just be correcting ur jaw to how it should’ve been in the first place

Sorry but what is bimax and bsso? :,) ill probably go to the dentist again around december / january but basically from what i understood my upper teeth are pushed a little forwards and theres a bigger gap between the upper and lower teeth than ideal

Surgeries that advance the maxilla and mandible forward, to improve forward growth

Yep sounds like an overbite. I def wouldn’t rely on braces to fix this, they’re def gonna try to retract ur maxilla with elastics. If u can, I’d recommend reaching out to an ortho or better, a maxfac surgeon, to get a consult for bsso

well i dont have a major overbite so i dont think that the braces will actually fuck up my maxilla even more
also by retract maxilla u mean like pushing it back or?

Yes, they typically use elastics to pull the maxilla back, not at all optimal and very often descends people’s looks

is there no other non surgical way to fix my overbite :,)))
No unfortunately :sadge:
I’m hesitant to get surgeries too but I’ll likely hve to get rhino, for whatever that’s worth
im pretty sure since my overbite isnt that bad (my teeth work functionally) they probably wont let me get bsso
They will, insurance just won’t cover it

honestly if it was up to me id definitely want to get the surgery but my parents most definitely wont allow it so lol :,) but my maxillas alr fucked up so it wont make much of a difference

nah idk ill check with my dentist + (i forgot the english name for dentists who specialise in braces)
Ortho?
and ill ask them about the maxilla + ill research + im scared af of surgeries
Well u should always do ur own research, but more than likely they’re just gonna try to convince u into elastics, that’s how they make money

yeaaaa probably but ill definitely keep all of this info in mind when going to the ortho and dentist :)
tysm

also if i were to get braces would it bring a negative net or positive to my current appearance?

braces by themselves, no, but like I mentioned, braces with elastics, negative

well while we were talking about the topic of braces with elastics i tried researching a bit and from what i found it doesnt push back the maxilla but push back the upper teeth while also pulling the lower teeth
it shouldnt have a direct effect to the maxilla and if it does its gonna be a very minor effect
pls if u have any sources that say the opposite send

I’m on my phone rn so don’t rly wanna try to do any research lol

Pushing back the upper teeth will def push back the maxilla though, it’s up to you on whether u wanna take the gamble on how significant the effect will be. Many people end up regretting it though

pushing up the upper teeth in my case will probably have little to no effect on my maxilla
the main cause for recession when fixing the overbite is extraction of the molars im pretty sure

Well I disagree but don’t wanna argue about it. Hopefully it’ll work out well for ya

I am talking about this part.

"your bloating comes from recession + weak zygos (yes, as I wrote this I inclined into thinking your zygos are not rounded but weak)
How do you get solve bloated cheeks? Fixing jaw recession and water retention. With weak zygos you will (probably) never have hollowcheeks, unless you keep developing (with you said you probably wouldnt)."
Your zygos are strong and sharp

and your jaw looks well developed
Your bloated look is probably fat and water retention. Maybe you have a slight maxilla recession though but I am not sure.

well if u dont mind could i try to gain evidence + sources to support my claims and send them tmrw if ur up for it :,)
sorry im very annoyinf but i wrote an argument for my claim

disproval

your claim -

since the elastics pull the upper teeth backwards that must also mean that they pull the maxilla backward

my argument -

braces + the elastics are placed on the teeth

the teeth are on the alveolar bone which is what shifts not the actual skeletal upper jaw

the maxilla is part of the skull so it probably wont shift from just elastics (too soft of a force)

*ALSO*

most ppl who complain about getting braces to fix their overbite had teeth retractions which actually causes maxilla recession

and while researching i didnt find any proof from a reliable source claiming that braces with elastics cause upper jaw recession

i could tag source but tbh i barely understood wtf they were saying so i had chat gpt simplify it for me XD

Tbh I wouldn't trust this pic that much...the sun just hit at the right moment and my phone hasn't been able to reach this quality again...I feel like over the years my camera got worse and worse
