15f. I just convinced my dad to visit the ortho for my overbite (he said he's cool with me getting braces). how do I ensure they give me structural braces instead of traditional tooth aligners

You can't really "ensure" that. The orthodontist will recommend whatever treatment is most appropriate for your specific case. if you have a significant overbite, just tell them you're interested in treatment options that address the bite itself and not just tooth alignment, and ask them to explain the pros and cons of braces vs aligners for your case

That's a fair point, but I still want to know what would give me the best chance. I don't have a serious overbite, none of my teeth are super crooked and from what I've heard, some orthos have preferences for certain treatment types. What I want out of this is improved jaw aesthetics. There is a chance the ortho is going to decide that a treatment that doesn't further my goal is the best fit for my case. I really don't want this to happen and I really don't want to blow my cover. I know I likely can't "ensure" a certain outcome, but I want to get as I close as I can to it.

i get what you're saying, but if jaw aesthetics are your main goal, i'd just be honest about that with the ortho. Tell them you're concerned about your profile, jawline, or overall facial balance and ask what treatment options could help. The problem with trying to steer them toward a specific appliance is that they might have good reasons for not recommending it in your case. if your overbite is mild and your teeth are already fairly straight, forcing a treatment that isn't indicated could end up giving you worse results than following their recommendation. i'd focus more on clearly explaining your goals and asking questions than trying to push for a specific device
