I've found my wife via a dating app called OkCupid. One thing about it that I liked was the questions, so we spoke about stuff on our profiles in a teasing manner in our first few messages. Spoke about politics and video games as well in the first week.
A lot of people will tell you to go out and find people irl, it's not a bad idea but I wasn't fond of the variables at play when it comes to that method. With dating apps, they know why you're there; at that point they know you're going to try to flirt with them or talk them up, so there's more room for you to be bold without you disturbing them doing something else. Like at a library, they're probably there to read or study, and probably don't want an ugly dude approaching them. (Me being the ugly dude, I have no clue what you look like.)
You have to go into it knowing it'd be ass though. Seriously. Don't listen to women when it comes to dating apps; they legitimately have zero understanding what it's like to be a dude on these apps. I'm telling you as a dude though that even if it crushed my soul for months or even years, it's how I found my wife, so it does work. I did have to looksmaxx though and optimize my profile quite heavily, but it was what ended up working with me.
I've tried irl connections, going to public spaces, etc. It just never worked for me personally. I'm autistic though, so take it with a grain of salt. Online communication as the starting point helped me and allowed me to build up the confidence of speaking with her; in real life I look awkward because I feel awkward and it's a turn off for women.
