The hinting doesnt stop, if anything it'll get to a point where you need to indicate your lowered level of interest. For example, harsh and rude remarks. And if it's social media then blocking/ cutting off contact. From then I think it'd be easier to get around that person rather than trying to use them, if they are actually somewhat intelligent they will realize you just used them to fuck their friend. And girls can be hyperaware of them orbiting, meaning they have a higher likelihood of actually shunning you from their friend group and cutting you off entirely.
